Hepatitis B
When to get it*: Once at birth, once at 1-2 months, and once between 6 and 18 monthsWhat it does: Immunizes baby against Hepatitis B infection, which results in jaundice, diarrhea, and/or vomiting and can cause liver disease. Though some Hepatitis B patients recover after several weeks, some become chronically infected and carry the disease for life. Most children with the disease contract it during birth from infected mothers. However, an early vaccination insures protection for over 20 years.
*We know vaccinating your baby can be scary, considering the now-discredited rumors about vaccines that have circulated in recent years. Read more about the vaccine debate here.

DTaP
When to get it: In 3 doses administered at 2, 3, and 4 months
What it does: This combined vaccine protects against the bacterial infections diphtheria, tetanus, and pertussis (whooping cough). These diseases may sound old-school, but they are still around and highly contagious. Diptheria, now rare in the U.S., affects breathing and can damage major organs. Tetanus, typically contracted through cuts or puncture wounds, causes sudden, powerful muscle spasms strong enough to break bones. Pertussis can lead to violent coughing spells that prevent an infected child from eating, drinking, and breathing.http://www.babble.com/baby/baby-vaccines-immunization-schedule-hepb-mmr-hib/baby-vaccines-immunization-schedule-hepb-mmr-hib-2/baby-vaccines-immunization-schedule-hepb-mmr-hib-2/baby/baby-vaccines-immunization-schedule-hepb-mmr-hib/baby-vaccines-immunization-schedule-hepb-mmr-hib-2/ -
PCV
When to get it: In 4 doses at 2, 4, 6, and between 12 and 15 months
What it does: This vaccine protects against pneumococcal disease, an illness spread by bacteria that can also lead to ear infections, blood infections, and death. Before the vaccine was given to young children, pneumococcal disease was a leading cause of bacterial meningitis in patients under age 5. Children with sickle cell disease or HIV infection, as well as some groups including African Americans and some Native American tribes, are more susceptible to infection.http://www.babble.com/baby/baby-vaccines-immunization-schedule-hepb-mmr-hib/baby-vaccines-immunization-schedule-hepb-mmr-hib-3/baby-vaccines-immunization-schedule-hepb-mmr-hib-3/baby/baby-vaccines-immunization-schedule-hepb-mmr-hib/baby-vaccines-immunization-schedule-hepb-mmr-hib-3/ -
Hib
When to get it: In 4 doses at 2, 4, and 6 months, and between 12 and 15 months
What it does: This vaccine protects against Hib, a disease spread by airborne bacteria that can lead to meningitis or pneumonia. According to the CDC, Hib (Haemophilus influenza type b) was the principal cause of bacterial meningitis in kids under 5 years old. Children who contracted Hib could suffer permanent brain damage or die as a result of the disease.http://www.babble.com/baby/baby-vaccines-immunization-schedule-hepb-mmr-hib/baby-vaccines-immunization-schedule-hepb-mmr-hib-4/baby-vaccines-immunization-schedule-hepb-mmr-hib-4/baby/baby-vaccines-immunization-schedule-hepb-mmr-hib/baby-vaccines-immunization-schedule-hepb-mmr-hib-4/ -
Polio
When to get it: In 3 doses, at 2, 4, and between 6 and 18 months
What it does: This vaccine, which is also known as IPV, has made the polio virus virtually disappear from American pediatricians patient records. Polio is spread through contact with an infected persons fecal matter or contaminated food or water. The disease affects the nervous system, causing paralysis throughout the body. Before the widespread use of the vaccine, the virus affected about 20,000 patients each year during the 1950s, leaving them unable to walk, or at times breathe, on their own.http://www.babble.com/baby/baby-vaccines-immunization-schedule-hepb-mmr-hib/baby-vaccines-immunization-schedule-hepb-mmr-hib-5/baby-vaccines-immunization-schedule-hepb-mmr-hib-5/baby/baby-vaccines-immunization-schedule-hepb-mmr-hib/baby-vaccines-immunization-schedule-hepb-mmr-hib-5/ -
RV
When to get it: In 3 doses, at 2, 4, and 6 months
What it does: The RV vaccine protects against infections caused by the rotavirus. Symptoms generally involve severe diarrhea and vomiting in young children. The CDC recommends the vaccine because rotavirus-related diarrhea is still extremely common in the United States. In 2010, after just 4 years of administering the vaccine, the number of babies and young children who needed emergency care related to the virus had decreased by 85 percent.http://www.babble.com/baby/baby-vaccines-immunization-schedule-hepb-mmr-hib/baby-vaccines-immunization-schedule-hepb-mmr-hib-6/baby-vaccines-immunization-schedule-hepb-mmr-hib-6/baby/baby-vaccines-immunization-schedule-hepb-mmr-hib/baby-vaccines-immunization-schedule-hepb-mmr-hib-6/ -
Influenza
When to get it: Recommended for every flu season, starting from 6 months
What it does: This vaccine protects against the influenza virus, more commonly known as the flu. The flu is a seasonal illness, with a frequency that rises as the temperature starts to drop. It causes fever, sore throat, cough, headache, chills, and muscle aches. In more severe cases, the illness can lead to inflammation of the heart, pneumonia, and even death. The elderly are the group the most prone to severe cases of the flu, but young children are also susceptible.http://www.babble.com/baby/baby-vaccines-immunization-schedule-hepb-mmr-hib/baby-vaccines-immunization-schedule-hepb-mmr-hib-7/baby-vaccines-immunization-schedule-hepb-mmr-hib-7/baby/baby-vaccines-immunization-schedule-hepb-mmr-hib/baby-vaccines-immunization-schedule-hepb-mmr-hib-7/ -
Varicella (Chickenpox)
When to get it: In 2 doses, at 12-15 months and between 4 and 6 years
What it does: Though the characteristic itchy, red rash caused by chickenpox seems like a rite of passage for childhood, the CDC now recommends the chickenpox vaccine for children under 1. Chickenpox itself is a generally mild illness, but the virus that causes it can lead to skin infections, brain swelling, and pneumonia. The severity of the illness increases as your child gets older, so immunizing at a young age is a good idea.http://www.babble.com/baby/baby-vaccines-immunization-schedule-hepb-mmr-hib/baby-vaccines-immunization-schedule-hepb-mmr-hib-8/baby-vaccines-immunization-schedule-hepb-mmr-hib-8/baby/baby-vaccines-immunization-schedule-hepb-mmr-hib/baby-vaccines-immunization-schedule-hepb-mmr-hib-8/ -
MMR
When to get it: In 2 doses, at 12-15 months and between 4-6 years
What it does: This triple-whammy of a vaccine protects against measles, mumps, and rubella. The relatively mild symptoms of these diseases — rash, runny nose, fever, or headache can lead to more serious complications, including pneumonia, seizures, meningitis, or death. According to the CDC, the number of reported cases of these diseases has been reduced by 99% since the introduction of the vaccine. The vaccine is recommended for babies and children entering school and is effective for life.http://www.babble.com/baby/baby-vaccines-immunization-schedule-hepb-mmr-hib/baby-vaccines-immunization-schedule-hepb-mmr-hib-9/baby-vaccines-immunization-schedule-hepb-mmr-hib-9/baby/baby-vaccines-immunization-schedule-hepb-mmr-hib/baby-vaccines-immunization-schedule-hepb-mmr-hib-9/ -
Hepatitis A
When to get it: In 1 dose, between 12 and 23 months
What it does: This vaccine protects against the Hepatitis A virus, which is contracted by coming into contact with blood or feces containing it. Like Hepatitis B, Hepatitis A can cause liver disease and lead to loss of appetite, fatigue, fever, stomach pain, vomiting, and jaundice, but unlike Hep B, its not chronic. Infected children who are younger than 6 years old may not show any symptoms, but the vaccine is the only way to prevent contracting the disease.http://www.babble.com/baby/baby-vaccines-immunization-schedule-hepb-mmr-hib/baby-vaccines-immunization-schedule-hepb-mmr-hib-10/baby-vaccines-immunization-schedule-hepb-mmr-hib-10/baby/baby-vaccines-immunization-schedule-hepb-mmr-hib/baby-vaccines-immunization-schedule-hepb-mmr-hib-10/ -

You mean “ensure” not “insure,” unless you are actually taking an insurance policy out against Hep B.
I think this is great for moms, but I found another one on http://www.newparent.com that is great as well and you can print out the vaccination to do log which has been helpful for me being a first time mom.
I am just throwing this out. Do your research PLEASE! Do not blindly accept everything the doctors say is best for YOUR baby! Would you really like to know a few of the things found in these so called “safe” vaccines? They contain: human diploid cells (originating from human aborted fetal tissue),animal tissues, formaldehyde VERO cells (a continuous line of monkey kidney cells),
washed sheep red blood cells, and thimerosal (49.6% mercury by weight) and these are just a few! I urge you to do research on your own as a woman who suffered vaccine induced ailments and still lives with them I would hate for anyone to go through what I have
Hep B is really a stupid vaccine. What do vaccines do to babies normaly? Gives them fevers. What do they tell you about your newborn? A fever is considered an emergency. Emergencys cost money, Hep B is contagious through sex and drug use. Do some research behind vaccines and revenue.
do your research re heb b. NOT just sex and drug use! Stop hating science so much!
and keep your unvaccinated kids away from my kids, thank you very much!
My two month old grandson received two Hep B vaccines in his first month of life. HE DIED ON AS HE TURNED TWO MONTHS OLD! I will go to my grave telling every pregnant woman to wait before giving this potentially lethal vaccine to her baby. My grandson was only 20 minutes old when he received his first one. I beleive that some vaccines are slow released, so any allergic reaction may not be immediate. We can look at photos now and see things, he had a twin brother. They weren’t identical twins, thank God because we may have lost them both! They say that if you are allergic to bakers yeast or the other ingredients in the vaccine that you should not receive the vaaccine. Well how do you know if your baby is allergic to any of the ingredients until you test? Logans symptoms were very slow to show, but he doubled his birth weight in less than two months. But nobody thought it unusual. But his twin brother didn’t gain that fast. Logan was swelling and it came on so slowly nobody could detect it. Till it was too late. He was a little fussy that night before putting him to bed, but eventually he fell asleep. About two a.m. mom and dad checked on the twins and Logan was already dead. My daughter did cpr while her husband called 911. The EMT’s arrived and there wasn’t anything they could do for Logan. This truly was horrific and devastating to our family. The ME’s report came back with an unknown cause of death. Which didn’t surprise us the government isn’t going to admit it had anything to do with vaccines.
If the mother tests negative for hep B , hold off giving it to your babies. Unless you expect your baby will have unprotected sex or share drug needles. They suspended the hep B vaccine in France because of adverse reactions. This is one instance I believe we should do as the French have done. All I can say is that there needs to be more informatiion as to what is exactly in each vaccine. This information needs to be given to the parents with enough time to consider the risks in order for this to be informed consent! Signatures should come from both parents. I am the grandma who lost her grandson to this hep B vaccine. The first vaccine was given only after asking the father. My daughter was still in the OR because she delivered by c-section. The second one was administered at the pediatricians office. My daughter said it was given and then they signed for it. A little backwards, don’t you think? People spend more time and do more research picking a new car, than they do checking out what we allow to be injected into our bodies? These pharmacuetical companies are making huge profits!! Is it too much to ask that they be truthful as to what the ingredients are in each vaccine? I just don’t believe they have our best interests in mind. Logans pediatrician never called my daughter after he passed away. You’d think she would want to see his surviving twin? Not to mention it took six months to receive Logans autopsy. For his cause of death to come back undetermined. I believe the system has failed us. We as a sHeeple have put way too much trust in people who really could care less whether our children live or die! Just as long as they can drive a new BMW or go on a nice vacation. Values have been so distorted it makes me sick!!
Very interesting. Our paediatrician was pushing Hep A at the 4 and 6 month visits. We declined it. It was definitely Hep A because it came up when we had said we had not gotten Hep B at birth and would be declining it.
There is SO much information not in this article. How about how common these diseases were before vaccines? Where’s the information on vaccine reactions and how often those occur (and what happens)? Where’s the pro/con? This is totally biased in favor of just getting the vaccines without doing your own research. I’d like to see charts, graphs, data proving all of what you’ve said here. I’m sure that will never happen. Where’s the proof that vaccines DID eliminate these diseases? Who is/was at risk for them? What causes serious side effects or death from the diseases? How likely are they to be passed around in today’s world? There are way, way too many unanswered questions here. Please everyone…do your own research. Ask.
What about the contamination with XMRV and XMLV?? What about the aluminum and formeldehyde? What about the new xenograft studies?? What about the RNsel genetic status of your infant?? Lots of info not talked about. If you don’t know if there is XMRV or XMLV contamination in the vile, you shouldn’t give it. DO NO HARM.
SIDS is a side effect LISTED on the DtaP vaccine insert people!!
If you believe in the efficacy of vaccines then you should have no worries about your vaccinated children being around unvaccinated children, doubt much?
I firmly believe all the vaccines are behind the explosion in food allergies this country has seen in the past 20 years or so. Happened to 2 of my kids. Third we didnt vax – no food allergies. Makes sense if you think about it – what is a vax designed to do? make your immune system get agitated and attempt to find “threats” (adjuvuncts). So it makes your body hypersensitive and it sees a bit of food protein and decides its a threat.
Vaccines are the single most important medical development in the second half of the 20th century. It is horrific to see so many pseudo-scientific and ill informed comments against vaccine use. There is an unambiguous lifesaving benefit and if you had grown in a generation where you risked your kid being paralyzed by going to the town pool you would stop this foolishness. Vaccines are victims of their own success and by fools who looks for any reason to reinforce their fears of the unknown. Stop taking advice from blond playmates and get a grip
If you want your children to be dumbed down have them vaccinated, if you want your children to be smart and healthy feed them organic whole foods, preferably raw.
