Have you been reading up on the Fall beauty trends? Sometimes I read these things and I wonder, Just who are these people that can go out and buy brand new colors every season and actually know what the heck to do with them? Fall beauty, Summer beauty, Spring beauty, it’s all equally mystifying to me. I barely know what to do with my eyeliner. I look at an array of lipstick colors and feel an internal panic coming on. It’s a lot for me to process.
But there is something about the chill in the air in New York that is really speaking to me right now, and so I’ve decided to be THAT person. You know who I mean. But it has to actually work for me, which means it has to work in the 20 minutes I have in the mornings to spiffy myself up before my kid starts hooting at me in distress from the living room. You know. Fall beauty. For mamas.
I’ve compiled a quick slideshow of looks and products that will take zero effort and minimal time and will make us cool mamas ONE OF THEM. You know who I mean. I mean girls who actually have time for this stuff. It’s after the jump! Go, let’s go!
PUNCHY LIP STICK 1 of 5Basically I take all my beauty cues from the Jcrew models, so when they wear punchy pink and red mouths I take notice. And lip stick is flat out THE easiest way to wear make up when you only have a few seconds for your face. Keep the rest of your face minimal (I like some mascara and bronzer, but that should do it) and you're done! My favorite red is Mac's Ruby Woo and my favorite pink is Revlon's Just Bitten Lipstain. Force yourself to wear it in public five times before you give up on it, that's my personal rule of lip stick.
PIN CURLS 2 of 5So, pin curls and I are having a moment, especially after the season finale of the latest Mad Men and Megan's perfectly bouncy curls. I haven't figured out the trick to this yet, but this is my hair inspiration for the season for sure.
Curls are especially good when you're short on time, because when they get a little messy it tends to look that much cuter. Messy is my forte these days, so let's do it!
ALWAYS ALEXA CHUNG 3 of 5Another great head of hair belongs to Alexa Chung. Sort of a Jackie Kennedy Meets 2011 kind of look. Pin curls without all the pinning. And you'll notice, Alexa has an effortless, bare faced beauty thing happening. Effortless is about where I'm at these days.
PERFECT WINGED EYELINER 4 of 5The trick to keeping this look non costumey is an absence of lip color, I think. I like Almay's Intense i Color liquid liner because the application is pretty easy. A good winged eye on the top of the eye and some concealer for the bottom, and a fresh, bare face looks pretty darn adorable. Perfect for those mornings when you have no idea how much you slept except you know it was DEFINITELY not enough.
GRAY NAIL POLISH 5 of 5Autumn is a time for darker nail polishes, but due to my long digits, anything too dark makes me look like I'm wearing olives on my fingers. I like this gray color--it conveys the same feel as the darker browns, blacks, reds and blues, without overwhelming a person. And as I always say, nothing glamourizes a diaper changing session like a real good manicure.
