I’ll admit that when it came time to pack for a baby to travel to the beach for the first time in the middle of February from chilly Indiana I began by over packing. It was supposed to be kind of cold. But warmer than it was here. We’d be at the beach, only it might rain. We’d be swimming and sightseeing indoors and out…I had to be prepared! I pared things down a bit and as I unpacked her suitcase when we got back I realized that I over packed but I certainly wasn’t under prepared.
There were a few things that proved to be invaluable on our trip and for anyone about to travel with a baby (even if it’s not to a beach.)
If you’ll be spending any time outdoors with a baby in any season, these are what we loved on our trip.
UB2 Bonnet 1 of 5I found out about Urban Baby Bonnets from another friend and bought one at a local boutique here in Indy. They fit like a dream (she's been wearing hers since 3 months) it's reversible and made of outrageously adorable fabrics. Winter versions lined with fleece are also available. She keeps it on with the adjustable snappy chin strap, it shields her face from the sun and it's super cute. It also has added benefits of discreet breastfeeding and it's handmade! Whee!
Available from Urban Baby Bonnets
Ergo Carrier 2 of 5We received the ERGObaby carrier as a baby shower gift and Cody took to it like a fish to water when Vivi was about seven months old. He wanted a carrier to use at church that felt sturdier than the Mei Tai that allowed her to sleep, enter the Ergo. We carry it in the car all the time and use it more than we use the stroller most days. On the beach it was invaluable since using a stroller in the sand was next to impossible. We're huge fans of babywearing and the Ergo is the most comfortable and useful for use by the both of us.
Available from ERGObaby.
RoSK Blanket 3 of 5I bought this blanket off of Baby Steals for $15 and it has been worth every penny. A fantastic gift for any new parent, the RoSK woobee plush blanket is lined with super soft minky on one side and a wind and waterproof blanket on the other. With two sets of ribbons on each side the blanket can be tied to a carrier (pictured here) a car seat or stroller. When it isn't tied to anything Vivi loves to play with the ribbons.
Available from Rain or Shine Kids.
JJ Cole Blanket 4 of 5This JJ Cole blanket was another shower gift from a friend in California. When opened it measures 5' x 5' and is made of a sturdy waterproof fabric. It folds up and closes with Velcro and has a handy carry strap for getting it to where you're headed. Sand shook off of it easily and we keep it in the car at all times and find all sorts of uses for it, the beach was one of the best.
Available from JJ Cole
Swim Cap 5 of 5So this one isn't a necessity at all. In fact it was just a giant splurge. BUT LOOK HOW CUTE IT IS! The little old ladies in the pool couldn't get enough of little swim baby Vivi. Bonus it's UPF 50 and kept her toasty warm in the indoor pool.
Available from Janie & Jack
