Can I Half Sleep Train?

cute baby Can you believe it? Fuzz is 7 months old already! He’s super cute and a giggling machine. He babbles and even said “Mama” a few times. He rolls over multiple times and can push his belly up off the floor, but he’s not quite up on all fours yet-which is the phase before they rock on their hands and knees, and then crawl. I took him in for his 6 month appointment today (um, a month late- the plight of the second child).

He’s 28 inches and 20.5 lbs which puts him in the 75th percentile for both height and weight, according to the old charts (i.e. the formula-fed baby chart).

He’s had a bunch of different solids and seems to like sweet potatoes and peas the best so far.

I told the doctor everything was going great, except the sleeping, which is still crap.
She basically told me to bite the bullet and sleep train him if I want to do so. I asked her how often he should feed at night at this point and she said once was fine.

Here’s the thing… I actually don’t mind feeding him once in the middle of the night until he’s one. In fact, I tend to agree with Dr. Jay Gordon that babies shouldn’t be night-weaned before 11 or 12 months, unless they self-wean and sleep through on their own.

Lucky for me, Fuzz is nowhere near that category and neither was his brother- but I had a much more difficult time dealing with the night nursing with baby #1- I tried to wean him at 8 months, and ended up starting again around 9 1/2 months.

So, I don’t mind feeding him once or even twice a night instead of —I don’t know, I lose count after five or six times. I also don’t want to completely give up sleeping with him. So, I’m wondering if there is a happy medium here. How can I get Fuzz to sleep more, but without fully sleep training him?

Is this all or nothing? Ferber or Co-Sleep? What do you think?
