Last night my husband told me about a race car driver who died in a bad crash, leaving behind a young son the same age as my Henry.
I’ve been reading about it all morning and it just breaks my heart. Turns out Dan Wheldon had two young sons. Their first boy is the same age as my daughter, Violet.
IndyCar Driver Dan Wheldon died in Las Vegas yesterday after his car crashed during a massive 15-car accident during the Las Vegas Indy 300.
Wheldon’s car went airborne after hitting another car during Lap 12, then apparently caught part of the catch fence just outside of Turn 2. Officials immediately ended the race.
The two-time Indianapolis 500 winner was was just 33 years old. His wife of three years, Susie, had just given birth to the couple’s second son, Oliver, this past February. Their first son, Sebastian, is two years old. Susie had been Wheldon’s assistant since 2003.

That photo just kills me. Two little boys will now grow up without their dad. Of course Wheldon was well aware of the risks involved with his career but it’s so tragic to lose someone so young, especially when these little sweethearts will only remember their dad from video. Absolutely devastating. Thoughts and prayers go out to the Wheldon family.
