Christmas Bressertfast

Christmas is four sleeps away. FOUR SLEEPS. Which means the best breakfast of the year is FOUR SLEEPS AWAY. The breakfast where you don’t care one bit about calories or nutritional value. The breakfast that keeps you so full you don’t even consider food until after dinner is served. The breakfast where you eat bacon AND sausage. The breakfast where you put whip cream and fruit on EVERYTHING (well, except the bacon and sausage.)

This is the breakfast I wait all year for.

The breakfast that the other 364 breakfasts revolve around.

Last year I didn’t get to have Christmas breakfast because someone was in my uterus making me very sick (or as Addie put it, kicked the food back out through my mouth because the baby didn’t like it.)

My pre-pregnancy pants fit and I’m not sick so Christmas breakfast? IT’S GAME ON.

Christmas breakfast isn’t even something that was a big tradition. It just always happened after opening presents and before all the playing with the new toys, just happy association with food I guess. Since we don’t have family around, and we’ll be on our own this Christmas breakfast will be our family. Just us. Cody won’t have to go to work, we won’t have to go anywhere, we get to hang out with each other all day. Talk about happy.

It’s Vivi’s first Christmas, while she won’t be getting anything covered in whipped cream and berries, I’m planning a little something special for her as well. Christmas is the one day where breakfast is better than dessert, in some cases breakfast is dessert. When pancakes swim in syrup and a donette is an acceptable side dish to hot chocolate.

My guilty breakfast indulgence is peanut butter on my pancakes, with syrup.

I can’t wait to see if Vivi is team peanut butter or team syrup next year…or both.

Many thanks to Hostess for sponsoring this post and for providing me and family with a supply of Donettes. Find out more about Hostess Donettes at their Facebook fan page.
