There is a joke in my family because every time I am having a rough day with the kids, I call my parents and ask them, “How did you do it before the days of the iPad or iPhone?” I’m slightly kidding, but I do sometimes wonder just how it was possible.
Now that I have two little ones, my time during the day is spread very thin. Between working from home, taking them to their daily activities, and trying to find time for myself, there are so many times when the good old iPad comes in handy. Especially those times when my toddler, Harlan, needs my attention, but I can’t give it to her right that second because I am nursing Avery.
Thankfully the iPad has great educational apps that keep her both entertained and learning which allows me to get some of my things done. Harlan loves watching Disney Junior and I was thrilled when they released two FREE (because we all love good freebies) apps for the iPad.
With the beauty of technology, two of her favorite Disney Junior shows, Mickey Mouse Clubhouse and Jake and the Never Land Pirates, now let her interact with them.
The Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Road Rally Appisode is probably one of the coolest apps for toddlers that I have ever seen. At first it looks like a typical Mickey Mouse Clubhouse episode, but soon after the introduction to the show, Mickey is asking Harlan to get involved.
There is voice recognition for her to say certain things that cue a response from her favorite Disney characters. It’s funny to see her speaking to the iPad, but it’s also great to see her being able to interact with Mickey and Minnie (who she is currently swooning over.)
Another great game that we’ve recently downloaded is Jake’s Never Land Pirate School App. Before I even get into explaining how amazing this app is, I’m just going to go out and admit to you that I’ve played this game a couple of times and might have even taken a picture of myself to be put on the pirate body. Oh yes, the game allows you to take a picture of your child’s face (or your own) and put it on a girl pirate or a boy pirate and then that pirate plays the game. Harlan was laughing so hard when she saw her face flying around the ipad trying to fight off evil Captain Hook.
Both games are fun and get Harlan involved in her favorite Disney shows. The thing that I love most about them (as a parent) is that they are educational. Both of these games require Harlan to think about how she is going to solve a certain problem. Rather than just sitting and watching the shows, she gets to help these Disney characters save the day! It helps put my mind at ease that she can still play with the beloved iPad and still learn something too.
The Mickey Mouse Clubhouse Road Rally Appisode App is available for free from the App Store on iPad or at www.itunes.com/appstore/. and Jake’s Never Land Pirate School App is available for free from the App Store on iPhone, iPad and iPod touch or at www.itunes.com/appstore/.
Go download both now! I promise your little one will love it (and you will too!)
Want more Disney Junior in your house? Disney Junior WATCH makes full length episodes of its popular shows available online at www.watchdisneyjunior.com and via the FREE (another great freebie) Disney Junior WATCH app on iPad, iPhone and iPod touch. Comcast Xfinity subscribers have access to premiere content, including a live feed of the network online and through the app. After the live feed, current shows will be available “on demand”. Perfect if you’re in the middle of a show and need to run out to do errands. No complaints from the kids that they’ll miss the end of their show. Or perhaps there are several kids in a family who like different programs. One can watch on the TV, while the other watches on their favorite device. Missed their favorite show? They’ll have up to 10 days to catch up on WATCH! Disney Junior Fans who aren’t on Comcast can contact their cable provider to ask for the service via the website or the app.
Join us August 8th at 9 PM EST for a Disney Junior Twitter party! You could win an iPad. RSVP at http://bit.ly/QsXDE2 and use the hashtags #spon and #mackidtips
