Do I See Walking in our Near Future?Lauren Jimeson
Baby milestones are such an exciting thing to watch from the sidelines. I was there when Avery smiled at me the first time. I saw her roll over for her sister, and even saw her make her first attempt at some independence in crawling. What I didn’t see was how quickly these milestones are just passing me by.
The first year with Harlan seemed to go by so slowly and I was able to take everything in. With Avery, I feel that it is the exact opposite. Maybe it is because my life is so much busier with two children that I don’t have any spare time to really sit and enjoy it all. Before I know it, she is going to be off walking. And I think that time is going to come quicker than I expected.
Avery has been actively crawling since the week after her six month birthday. A few weeks after that, she began to pull herself up just about anywhere she could. Now we are at the point where all she wants to do is stand up. She will try to pull herself up anywhere she can, including the wall.
I know I shouldn’t compare each of my girls, but it’s hard not to. Avery is an entire month ahead of her sister when it comes to crawling. She’s even more than that for pulling herself up. Harlan started walking at 1o months. I have a feeling Avery is on the same path or even quicker.
I went to our storage unit last week to put away all of the baby clothes and toys that Avery has outgrown and pulled out all of the toys that she will now be able to enjoy, including a push walker. As soon as I brought it into our apartment and she stood behind it, she was the happiest baby. You could tell that she was right in her element and ready to go. Although she doesn’t quite have all of the balance for it, she is very determined to find out exactly how it works.
She could stay at this stage for the next few months or I could blink and she could be walking. Harlan was never much of a crawler and just wanted to walk right at 10 months. I know it’s impossible to predict whether or not she is going to be walking soon, but she is giving me all of the signals that she wants to. For the time being I am going to sit and enjoy these moments of her being a baby.
When did your little one start walking?
