Do You Have A Mommy To Spare?

Fuzz's spare mommy, or my sister.

Ok, so this is not a post about sister wives…exactly. The fact that I live 3,000 miles away from my extended family often makes it really challenging for me. The only help I have is the odd friend that comes over or a childcare provider that I pay. At this point I haven’t left Fuzz with anyone except family and a couple of close friends. So when my family comes to town, it’s really helpful to have everyone around. Especially my mom, although I’ve already discussed what’s going on in that realm. But, check this out…

My sister is in town with the rest of the family. There is this very bizarre phenomenon going on over here. I swear that Fuzzball thinks my sister and I are interchangeable. We do look alike. We do sound alike. We have a lot of the same mannerisms. I’m sure we must smell at least slightly different–she gets to take showers more frequently, for one. Even still, Fuzz becomes completely calm when in her arms (unlike my mom’s) as if he was in mine! A few times he actually climbed into her arms from my arms!! It was super crazy!!

Interestingly, my other son did the same thing around the same age for a few months.
Anyway, we’ve knicknamed this phenomenon “Fake Mommy” or alternatively, “Spare Mommy.” It is both hilarious and sweet, although it makes me sad that my sister lives so far away. Spare mommy isn’t really a spare on another coast.

Wouldn’t it be nice to have an extra one of you to spare? If you have a sister, how does your baby react to her? Anyone else have this too?
