Easing Into the Helmet

Brand New Shiny Helmet!

Meet Addison’s helmet!

She was fitted for it last week, and on Tuesday we went to her appointment to get it, have it adjusted and trimmed to her head, and start the three-month-long process!

And she is doing amazingly!

I was worried about how she was going to handle wearing it all the time, because honestly — who wants to wear a damn helmet? I know I wouldn’t want something on my head all the time!

This week we start with a moderated wearing schedule.

Day 1 – 2-3 hours for the day.
Day 2 – 4-6 hours
and we are adding 1-2 hours a day until next week, when she will be expected to wear it 23 hours a day.

We will be taking it off for bath time mostly.

She isn’t really a fan of putting it on or taking it off, but other than that she is handling it in a completely impressive manner. She isn’t cranky or irritated. The only thing I have noticed that may become an issue is the sweating the helmet itself is causing. It is almost like she is pouring sweat underneath it.  And I was worried about her head staying warm!

So when the helmet actually comes off — she looks like she just got out of the bath. Which in turn is tangling her hair. Man … for eight months old, she has a ton of hair!

But overall, all is well in helmet land!
Check out how cute she is in it!

And to think, I was worried!

This was just a minute or two after we put it on her for the first time. All smiles, and barely even noticing it was there... How cute right?

I am not sure how I like her in the infant carseat anymore. I think with the addition of the helmet, we are going to be moving into a convertible carseat sooner than I originally though. But she is still cute! And tolerating it!

We went to pick her brothers up from Grandma's house after all the excitement. My oldest son said "I thought she was going to have a football helmet" which we all cracked up about.
As you can see, her hair is a little crazy under the helmet. I am praying she doesn't lose her hair through all of this!
