Less than 2 weeks in and our Abby is a little foodie. Just like her momma and daddy. We choose to wait the general 4 days before introducing something new and have been keeping it real simple, choosing easy to digest, recommended first foods.
Organic yams was her first, followed by banana. We wanted to introduce a grain that we could mix with her fruit and veggies as they are introduced, and have a healthy cereal for her in the mornings.
That being said, she is not quite 6 months yet and we always mix plenty of breast milk or formula (whatever is on hand) to her food puree’s. The consistency is quite runny, but for this first month or so of introducing food — we’ve found that this is what she prefers and does not experience any constipation.
It can be hard to find unprocessed, organic brown rice cereal, or steel cut oats (healthier than processed oats). When one does? It’s never cheap. That is unless, one makes it themselves. Which I did! And it was super easy. Step-by-step how to, including cooking up large batches to freeze — after the jump.
When did you start your baby on food? Was it cereal first, or fruits and veggies first?
