Getting Baby On A RoutineAlyson Brown
For the past few weeks, I’ve begun to notice that Wolf has developed a pattern. He wakes sometime around 6:00 am and he’s always hungry when he wakes up. I feed him then we do a little tummy time and then I set him down in his crib under his mobile where he coos and ahhs at the animals floating above his head. He’s content for about 30 minutes, just enough time for me to either shower or make breakfast. Then he gets fussy so I swaddle him and put him down for a nap. About an hour or so later, we repeat.
Each day isn’t exactly the same, but Wolf always goes from sleep to eat to play to fuss to sleep again. Now that we’re starting to see him on a routine, I wonder how much I should stick to it and how much I can afford to change it.
Right now Wolf’s schedule works for us. He wakes up at 6:00 am, naps and eats off and on through out the day, then he’s asleep by 11:00 pm and sleeps through the night. When I look at most schedules for babies and kids, the typical “bed time” is 7:00 or 8:00 pm. I feel like we could transition Wolf into an 8:00 bed time, but then he’d be awake at 4:00 and as selfish as this might seem, it works best for me to sleep through the night and get up for my day when he wakes up.
What do you think about bed time? Is it wrong for me to be putting Wolf to bed so late? When did your baby start sleeping through the night?
