GIVEAWAY: Munchkin Baby Gate!

By EmilyBMalone |

Win a baby gate for your home!

Cullen is getting more mobile every day.  Now that he’s walking – which looks more like a drunken stumble – we’ve had to really kick the baby-proofing into high gear.  One of the first things we needed to do to make sure he stays safe was put a baby gate at the top of our staircase.

The nice folks at Munchkin offered to let me try one of their gates (and give one to you as well!), so I opted for this sleek looking Wood & Steel Designer Gate (the Deco).  Keep reading to find out how you can win a gate for your home!

As anyone who has ever needed to buy a baby gate knows, there are a million different sized, designs, and styles.  I spent a lot of wasted hours browsing through Amazon and Diapers.com, clicking and scrolling to dog for buried information about sizes and accessories (like extension rods).  Munchkin has made shopping for gates simple and easy.  They have a simple “gate selector tool” on the website that allows you to filter the gate options by width and location (top of steps, hallway, etc.).  Once you select your options, it shows you the gates available to meet your needs – simple as that!

There are a few different features that I really like about my Deco gate.  Most importantly, it’s sturdy and safe, and we were able to mount it directly into the wall in order to ensure optimal safety at the top of the steps.  The gate release took a day or two to get used to (push down while you hold in the button), but now it’s second nature.

Another important feature in our house is that the gate can be left open or shut.  Many gates have a built in auto-shut mechanism, so that gates are never accidentally left open.  I know this feature is added with safety in mind, but in a house with two roaming dogs, we need the option to have the gate open for access to the whole house.  With that said, it’s also nice to have the option to close the gate and keep dogs up or downstairs if I need them separated from us for a bit.

I love the Munchkin has gate options beyond just white metal or wood springs.  This steel and wood combo blends seamlessly into our house and matches our hardware and banister.

Want to win a gate of your own?  Munchkin has generously offered to send any baby gate to the lucky giveaway winner!  You can browse all the options on the Munchkin website (make sure to check out their new quick install gate and the new precision fit gate) and choose the style and size that works best for you!

  1. Jen says:

Would love this gate for the top of our stairs! Layla isn’t walking yet, but she will be before we know it…and I don’t want her to go tumbling!

  2. Sarah C says:

Because we have an open floor plan, I would put the gate at the end of the hallway. At least it’d keep the baby away from the litter box. :/ Baby #2 is due in 7 weeks!

  3. Joanna Bodie says:

Having had a little one and a vivacious golden retriever we have been on the hunt for a baby gate since becoming pregnant. We would place the gate at the top of the stairs to avoid any accidents when it comes to the stairs and so we can also have our furry baby visit the second floor with restrictions. Thanks

  4. Jessica says:

I have been on the search for another baby gate. I haven’t figured out a way to hide all of the cords behind the office desk so our next gate will be to close the office off.

  5. Laura says:

We would put this gate at the top of the stairs too. I like the fact that it could stay open if needed. We have a cat. Thanks -love your posts, Emily!

  6. Cori says:

We have a small home, so I would put the gate on our bedroom door because its about as much separation as we can get!

  7. Sarah Crosby says:

At the top of our stairs!! I love the sleeker looks like the loft dark wood!! Bravo for munchin for coming up with cuter designs! ;)

  8. Emily says:

Top of the steps! We have one at the bottom but like with Cullen, now that they’re walking, our house needs to be in full on lock down. I don’t even want to tell you the story of the front screen door closed but not locked haha these kids ;)

  9. rw says:

This would be great for the top of the stairs in the kitchen!

  10. Louise says:

Need the gate to block off the kitchen. He loves to be underfoot when I’m cooking.

  11. Beth says:

We’d use it to block off the kitchen.

  12. Sarah G says:

I’ll put mine on the bathroom door… my baby wants to play with his big sister’s training potty more than anything else in the house! Yuck.

  13. Katie says:

I am just starting to look at baby gates. I need one for both the top and bottom of my stairs. I do love the look of this gate!

  14. Erin says:

We need a gate for the top of the stairs.

  15. Martha says:

Eagerly awaiting the arrival of my baby girl this October! Living in Alexandria, VA, we have lots of stairways and love the look of this sleek and modern gate!

  16. Tanya says:

We definitely will need a gate once our baby girl arrives and starts becoming mobile to separate our upstairs from downstairs. The stairs make me a nervous wreck and the added safety of the gate will grant me certain peace of mind!

  17. Paige says:

Oh my, what good timing! Am totally in the market for baby gates and grateful to get some pointers. Would love to have a munchin gate at the top Of my stairs!

  18. Erin says:

We have been on the hunt for a baby gate to block off the kitchen. We only have one floor, but knowing our little guy can roam around but not get into anything dangerous in the kitchen will give me peace of mind! We are also going to renovate our kitchen shortly and DEFINITELY need to keep that area blocked off!

  19. Noelle (@singerinkitchen) says:

This comes at a PERFECT time! We just moved into a place that requires 2 gates. A 3 story town home and my 9 month old is crawling and getting on stairs already! Quick! Thanks for the giveaway!

  20. Jessica says:

Would love a gate to block off my husbands office from Mason.

  21. Katie says:

At the bottom of the stairs!

  22. Sara says:

We are moving to northern Washington on Saturday so I have no idea where I would put it, but I’m sure I would find somewhere in our new house!!

And, I’ve told you this a few times before, but I can’t believe how similar our tastes are in baby items! We already have 2 Deco gates from Munchkin and we LOVE them! We use one at the bottom of the stairs and one for the laundry/cat litter room. I’m actually hoping we won’t need more than those 2 for our new house.

  23. lfwfv says:

At the top of our stairs heading to our basement. We are expecting our first baby in October and I would love to get a head-start on baby-proofing!

  24. Leslie says:

We’d put this on our stairs as well!

  25. Melissa H. says:

I would put it at the entrance of the kitchen!

  26. .ambre. @mytempleremodeling.com says:

We would put it by our basement steps.

  27. Debra Zdrojewski says:

I need a gate to block off my stairs ASAP! He is anxious to get around and check out everything! I didnt think I would need one this SOON! Aahhhhh!

  28. Maxie says:

Between our kitchen and lounge room. Our lounge has a wooden theme so it would work perfectly

  29. Stefanie says:

Top of the steps! My mother-in-law bought us 2 baby gates, but it doesn’t fit our stair posts because of their shape. This would be perfect.

  30. Ashley says:

To block off my kitchen and cleaning products!

  31. Kimberly @ Healthy Strides says:

At the bottom of our steps. Our Miles is a master climber.

  32. Natasha says:

We would put it at the top of our stairs! :)

  33. Anna Crossley says:

We would put this at the entrance to our kitchen. We had one there, but our little one found the stairs so we had to block them off. Now she has the strength to move the playyard we were using to block it off so we need to find a way to keep here from wandering into the kitchen.

  34. Ashley B says:

Between the kitchen and livingroom of our new house!!!!

  35. JenP says:

We’d put it at the top of our stairs. This one looks great.

  36. Lisa says:

I’d put it between the kitchen & the dining room area (now play area!) to keep baby safe, but also in view while we’re in the kitchen cooking. Thanks!!! :-)

  37. Joleen says:

I would put in my kitchen

  38. Karina Lee says:

I’d put mine between the kitchen and dining room

  39. Holly says:

I would love to be chosen! Gates are so expensive but needed. We need one for the stairs at Grandmas house. What a blessing this would be!

  40. Megan C says:

Would love to win this! We have two reasons we need a gate for our third baby, due in a few weeks: reason one, to contain our two rambunctious puppies downstairs, and reason two, to gate off a potentially dangerous staircase. Fingers crossed, thanks for the chance! megancrose@gmail.com

  41. Kim Raymond says:

I would put it in my bathroom doorway. NO MORE REROLLING THE TOILET PAPER! lol

  42. Melissa Q says:

My little guy is hitting his one year birthday soon and almost walking. I have a gate for the bottom of the stairs, but we really need one for the top of the stairs. Munchkin gates are the best because you can always find one that works with your house. I am always so worried about our stair case and my boy is really on the move!!

  43. Brandi says:

I would out this gate at the top of my stairs so my little guy won’t fall down them. He is bear crawling and he is a fast little bigger!

  44. Rachelle says:

We’d put it on the top of the basement stairs.

  45. Christina says:

We’d put it at the top of our stairs. We just moved and need a new one before little guy is mobile!

  46. Rachel says:

At the top of stairs to keep the baby safe and to keep the dog downstairs out of her room!

  47. Isela says:

We need a gate for the top of the stairs. We having a hard time finding a gate for that area.

  48. erika says:

I have a baby and the way and need a gate to keep my 150lb mastiff from going up into her room! at least for the early days! Then it will probably be for baby to keep away from my dog :)

  49. Marty says:

I have stairs going down to the basement with an open arched doorway. I liked it when we moved in and now with a baby thats almost crawling it’s making me very nervous so thats where I would put it.

  50. Pantrygirl says:

This would be perfect in our kitchen. My son is just starting to crawl. Partitioning the area by the dog’s food and the stove from him would give me peace of mind and allow him to explore safely.

  51. Kate says:

I love the one you chose! We need one at the top of the stairs for the same reasons! Keeping Duke our rescue dog down when Cohen needs to be upstairs! We’d get the same one as you love the color!

  52. Heather Goerlich says:

This gate looks great! I would put it in a doorway that blocks off our foyer and the staircase to the second floor in our home, a two-for-one deal to keep my lil peanut safe!!

  53. Lori says:

On the top of our stairwell! :)

  54. Jackie K says:

Well, we just bought a new house with plenty of doorways. I think a gate will definitely be needed to keep our little one safe in the kitchen with me while I’m making dinner. We have a pocket door on the other side entrance, which I love.

  55. Miranda says:

We are just about to move to a two story condo, so this gate would go at the top of the stairs…just in time!

  56. steph says:

i would put it in front of our hallway!

  57. Palmer Johnson says:

My daughter is crawling everywhere and staring to pull up. So I would definately put it at the bottom of my stairs.(of course then i would need another one for the top of the stairs!)

  58. Kristen says:

We need one to separate our kitchen! Love the options they have.

  59. Marisa says:

Definitely need one for the top of the stairs!

  60. Becca says:

I would put it at the top of our stairs since our house is split level and the kitchen and family room are on the second floor. My baby is almost 9 months and on the move!

  61. Genna says:

I would put the gate in the door way of my camper so my little one doesn’t try to go/fall down those metal stairs. That would just not be good at all!

  62. Shelley says:

This would be perfect at the top of our stairs. We just purchased a 1930 colonial with a big, wooden staircase–we definitely need to get gates!

  63. liz says:

just bought a new house and need to do a ton of babyproofing! these would be perfect to seperate playroom from the rest of the house.

  64. Amanda Snow says:

We have a split-level home, so we are in need of gates EVERYWHERE! This one would probably go at the top of the stairs, so guests could easily come up without having to worry about opening/shutting. I love that it stays open!

  65. Stephanie says:

I would put it at the bottom of our stairs, so Addy couldn’t climb up the stairs!

  66. laura J says:

I’d put the Protect® Top of Stairs Metal Gate Extra Tall & Wide at the top of the stairs for when baby-to-be starts moving around

  67. Mary says:

At the top of the stairs! We have one of the (much) cheaper versions, but honestly, it doesn’t stay up well because the cats use it as a launch pad and it knocks over.

  68. Luisa says:

A gate to block off the kitchen will give me peace of mind!

  69. Sherri says:

We have a very tall carpeted stair case leading up to Alston’s room. That is where the gate will go to protect our little guy from falling down the stairs.

  70. Sleepyheadedmom says:

i would put the gate in the kitchen doorway.

    Sleepyheadedmom at gmail dot com

  71. Natassia says:

Top of the stairs! My 5 month old just started crawling and that little boy loves to stand so I can imagine he will hit the walking stage early

  72. C says:

Top of the stairs! (a familiar answer, it seems!) To keep the dog out of the baby’s loft bedroom now, and to keep her from coming down once she starts crawling/walking.

  73. jean says:

I’d put the gate in the kitchen to keep our baby from crawling into the garage!

  74. jessica says:

I would put the gate in my front door…my 5 year old likes to open the big door for her and my 2month old to look out the glass door and tends to forget to shut it and we haven’t got our porch built yet :(

  75. jara Christensen says:

I would use this in front of our stairs!

    jaragabrielle1018@gmail.com

  76. Lizzie says:

We have a quad (!) level house so we need 5 (ugh!) baby gates! This would go on top of the stairs near our little one’s bedroom for safety and to not trap the cats away from the litter box!

  77. Christen says:

I would put a gate by the stairway. My almost 8 month old is crawling and climbing on everything. The stairs are just too enticing for him.

  78. Jaime says:

Our daughter is almost crawling, so we will be putting a gate at the top and bottom of our stairs soon!

  79. Gena says:

I would definitely use this gate for our stairs! So scary without a gate up!

  80. Ashley C says:

We’ll use this to block off our washing machine, dryer, and pantry…my son’s favorite area to get into everything!

    demureprincess7(at)gmail(dot)com

  81. Amber says:

We have a gate at the top of our stairs, another at the bottom, and another gate to keep the baby out of the hallway where the cat food, cat litter, and laundry room are. I’d love to have another one for the kitchen area!

As far as car seat safety (if I’m reading right, that’s what the instructions above asked about?) – we had our car seat installations checked at the local fire station, and we also only put the kids in fleece pullovers in their car seats. I keep blankets in the car to lay over them when it’s really cold, and take their coats along to put on when we get out of the car.

  82. J. Moritz says:

I need a permanently installed gate to keep four small grandchildren and another on the way from tumbling down a long flight of stairs.

  83. Lisa Eichner says:

My 8 month old started crawling today. Its very exciting but I am trying to figure out how I am going to get my work done. I work from home 4 hours 5 days a week. A baby gate at the top of the stairs would make my mornings a little less stressful.
