Dr. Seuss’s Birthday is today! The only way I can celebrate is to say thank you to him for the wonderful gift he’s given to children throughout the years. I know some of my favorite books as a child were Dr. Seuss. Now, I’m happy to report that my two-year-old has loved many a Seuss book from the time he was around nine months old.
We started by reading Dr. Seuss’s ABC. Shnook would turn right to the ‘R’ page, point to Rosy’s red rhinoceros and say “RUSS!!!” He also loved to point out the baby. Don’t you love how babies think other babies are novelties?? It’s just so cute.
Another favorite early Seuss book is Mr. Brown Can Moo! Can You? This is a great book to get little ones to start imitating sounds, which leads to talking. Shnook’s favorite line was the rain: “Dibble Dibble Dibble Dop!”
At about two, Shnook started to love Hop On Pop. He regularly repeats lines from this book with it’s rhymes and rhythms, especially: “No, Pat, No. Don’t sit on that!”
I’m ready to move on to Green Eggs and Ham and The Cat in the Hat, but we don’t own them yet (scandal)!
