Happy Parents, Happy Babies.

Savoring a cup of coffee makes me happy.

One of the hardest parts of the learning curve of new parenting, whether you are single or married, is trying to figure out who you are now that you have children. Once you figure that out, you need to learn how to make yourself happy. Otherwise, you have a seriously difficult road ahead.  Especially during the first several months of your baby’s life, although his smiles and giggles make it worth it, you just might need a little more help to reach nirvana. Okay, nirvana might be reaching a little high, but happiness is important.

Many of the things that used to make you happy either don’t anymore, or don’t line up with your new life as a parent (Bungee Jumping? Clubbing ‘Til Dawn?).

For me, the definition of happiness has changed a lot. My mom friends have been an invaluable source of support for me, which in turn, leads me to happiness. When I can hang out and talk with some friends for a couple of hours while our babies crawl on the grass and eat dirt, it makes me more relaxed about parenting and subsequently, my life in general.

Strollerderby posted a cool new slideshow about some things that make parents happy, including, of all things, daycare (I’d have to agree on that one)!

What makes you a happy parent?
