Kara is 3-weeks-old, and while I thought that maybe I would be able to avoid colic with baby number two, that just isn’t the case.
For the past few nights, starting at about midnight and running until 5:00 a.m., Kara is fussy, gassy, and at times, seemingly inconsolable. We’re talking major screaming fits, folks.
Have I called our pediatrician yet? Yes. I was given a few wishy-washy suggestions, most of which I had already tried.
I am now trying all of the usual recommendations, including the gas drops, gripe water, warm bath before bed, football hold, gentle pressure to the belly, etc.
I hate using the word colic, because I really don’t know what is going on with Kara. It really seems to be gastrointestinal, as I can hear a lot of stomach growling, some gas, and foamy (TMI?) stool.
I’m breastfeeding Kara, and somewhat petrified that the problem is something to do with my breast milk.
Is it too much dairy in my diet? Is the caffeine I am drinking bothering her? Maybe it’s an imbalance of foremilk vs. hindmilk, or is this just a normal, newborn thing that she’ll outgrow?
