How Do We Do Solids When We Travel?

By EmilyBMalone |

Have you used something like this?

As our adventures in solid food continue, I’m starting to look ahead toward a few trips we have planned for this summer.  Now that Cullen is eating at the table with the rest of the family, I’m trying hard to stay consistent and feed him his cereals and veggies every night.

We have a few trips coming up this summer for more than just a day or two, and I don’t want to abandon solid food just because we’re traveling.  I know that right now it’s just experiential, but eventually this is going to be his primary source of nutrition!

In order to keep up with his eating, I’m trying to figure out how exactly we’re going to do that when we’re traveling. Right now he’s still working in the whole sitting up while unattended thing, so I can’t just plop him in a chair or on a table (with assistance, of course).  And since we live in Seattle, which is pretty much driving distance to…nothing…all our traveling will be done via airplane.

Car trips are easy since we can throw the Bumbo or something in the car, but what do we do when we’re traveling by air?  Can anyone recommend any good, foldable travel high chairs?  It needs to be sturdy enough for my very active baby, but also small enough to fit in a suitcase.  Any and all suggestions are welcomed!

I live in Seattle too! I have seen these: http://www.amazon.com/My-Little-Seat-Travel-Months/dp/B002AKRJ4I/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1335412648&sr=8-2

never used it, but it looks like it might work!
Here’s hoping the sun comes back soon!

For airports, I like to travel with as little as possible and just take snacks that are less messy and easy to feed while my son is sitting in my lap or in the stroller (when we take it).

You’ll find most restaurants wherever you are going will have highchairs, but for someone’s house, we have this travel booster: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004L2JJ6O/ref=asc_df_B004L2JJ6O1991612?smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=asn&creative=395093&creativeASIN=B004L2JJ6O&hvpos=1o1&hvexid=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=20764840561114177807&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=

It folds up completely flat, so it’s easy to pack in a suitcase and even fits in our diaper bag. You could also get a ‘tiny diner’ placemat for a table if you don’t want him to eat directly off of the table.

We have just been feeding our 7 month daughter sitting in the stroller when we go out of town. We pull it up to the table and use that. Also, while I make all of her baby food, I have gotten her used to the plum organics food as well, so I know I won’t have an issue feeding her when I don’t have access to a kitchen or refrigerator.

We have one of the travel seats the first commenter linked to. We love it! We’ve taken our baby and it to France, Ireland, Greece and all around England. Works great, packs up small in the diaper bag and is machine washable. A must have for travels!

I also have, and highly recommend, My Little Seat. I’ve traveled to St Martin with it when my daughter was 7 months old and keep it in the car for restaurants that don’t have high chairs. I also recommend buying a “Tiny Diner” mat – great for throwing down on restaurant tables to put finger food on. Happy travels!

I dont think you need a chair. Just put him in your lap and have your husband feed him, like the did in the goo ol days.

We’re in Seattle too! We bought this http://www.amazon.com/Inglesina-2012-Table-Chair-Ibisco/dp/B006JV4HFS/ref=pd_sim_ba_12
It’s super functional and doesn’t look tacky!
