Ah yes, we all know strangers say the darnedest things to new moms. Unsolicited advice and creepy comments that leave you scratching your head and asking yourself, “Did that just REALLY happen?!”
I must have a bull’s eye on my head or something because getting bizarre comments and super weird advice given to me all the time. Most recently, it was a stranger telling me how birth control works. Yes, I know how to prevent that.
But today, a comment made by a man (A MAN!) takes the cake.
Paul and I were minding our own business, shopping around a warehouse store (OK, fine. It was the Goodwill Outlet, I’m a bit of a junk addict.), when a man, who I’m guessing was in his late 50s,came up to me and said:
“You are so lucky to have small boobs, you can wear your baby with ‘them’ for so long.”
And by “them” I’m assuming he was talking about my lack of a chest. Um, thank you for your compliment? That was a compliment, right?
Honestly, I’m not offended at all. I’m more blown away at the how amazingly bold this man was. In fact, all I could do was look at him with big crazy eyes and nervously laugh.
And to set the record straight, I don’t think I have small breasts at all. I’m of very average size and I’m nursing full time. I HAVE BOOBS!
But apparently, he’s more familiar with larger breasted women who are incapable of baby wearing? But then again, that could just be me speculating.
I don’t know where people come up with their comments. I don’t know how they find it appropriate to actually speak what they’re thinking out loud. Next time, I’m going to be more witty and speculate on the size of his manliness.
Let’s discuss. What’s the most inappropriate comment a stranger’s given you lately?
