I Take My Baby to the Chiropractor.

I started going to the chiropractor when I was pregnant with Addie seven years ago. Not only did Dr. Monson help me with my tension headaches, he also helped me immensely with my constant nausea and vomiting. I quit going for a long time and by the time I found my way back to the chiropractor, he had a shoulder to fix from both my excessive pouch sling wearing and the horrible way in which I held both the car seat and the baby. My visits were regular during my pregnancy with Vivi, because guess what? When you get pregnant again, your whole body just gives up immediately and nothing stays where it’s supposed to, including your spine. Towards the end of my pregnancy the doctor worked heavily on my hips to align them and open them up for all the baby pushing that was in my near future.

One day as I was checking out, the nurse asked me “So, you’re going to bring your baby in for Dr. Davis to adjust her right?”

Huh.

I had never thought of bringing a baby to the chiropractor, but it makes perfect sense.

Babies spend a long time smooshed up in a very small space and all of them make very dramatic entrances into the world.  On my next visit I asked the doctor about adjusting babies and he said it’s much better to fix any possible problems early on before they become a lifetime of issues.

Well said, doctor. But …

You’ve been to the chiropractor right? It’s not exactly the most … gentle process. Suddenly, I have visions of my tiny baby lying on that red glittery table while the doctor took her by the neck and accidentally threw her up against the wall as he tried to adjust her tiny little neck.

Turns out it is a gentle process, and Vivi actually enjoys it. She’s never really had any huge issues but this last visit her neck was supposedly a little tighter than before. I blame all the rolling over.

I have other friends who take their very colicky babies to the chiropractor and experience amazing results. As for Vivi, an adjustment for either of my kids is free with each of my visits so why not have them straightened out and popped? It’s worth asking to see if adjustments on minors are free at your doctors office.

If you don’t go to the chiropractor already? YOU MUST. With all the weird things we do with our bodies once we become moms? Chiropractors fulfill an awful lot of relaxing fantasies. My best friend (currently pregnant with her fourth) dreams about her chiro.

How about you? Have you taken your baby to the chiropractor?
