Imagine not being able to see or hear anything for the early part of your life. That is exactly what life was like for Chloe Ring, who was born blind and deaf.
Chloe’s father has hearing problems so Chloe was given a hearing test shortly after she was born. At just a week old, her parents learned that she was deaf. Just a few months later after doctors noticed a lazy eye, her parents found out that she was also blind. In an effort to make her life not hindered by her disabilities, her parents helped give Chloe the ability to hear.
At 14 months old, Chloe underwent cochlear implant surgery to help her hearing. The reaction that she has when she hears for the first time is enough to make your heart swell. As a parent, there is nothing like seeing your child experience things for the first time. But I can imagine that her parents felt so much more as they watched the joy in Chloe’s face as she was able to hear things for the first time.
Just six months after this video was taken, Chloe said her first words. She is now 5 years old and is thriving in a mainstream classroom with 29 other kids her age.
After watching that video, it’s evident that Chloe hasn’t let her disabilities stand in her way. She looks like a happy, healthy 5-year-old girl, thankful that her parents helped give her the gift of hearing.
