Music to Soothe the Savage Baby: Tunes that Calm My Little OneMolly Thornberg
Music is always in the air in some room of our house. While neither my husband or I can carry a tune – we have a passion for great random music that we have forcefully pushed on our kids. Because, you know we are that kind of parent.
One of our favorite baby finds was an MP3 player that snaps onto our baby’s crib. Each night, we play DJ cranking up the noise, lulling our crying baby to sleep. (And yes, our baby is now in the phase of SLEEP? I don’t want no stinkin’ sleep.)
Here are 8 of our favorite tunes to spin for our baby:
Beautiful Things – by Gungor 1 of 8Zeke was born to this song. I tear up everytime I hear it. I am crying as I type this (can you tell I am still a hormonal mess?)
Punk Rock Show – by MXPX 2 of 8My husband and I met and our instant connection was because of our mutual love for this band.
Birdhouse In Your Soul – by They Might Be Giants 3 of 8I wish I could tell you why this song makes me smile. Whatever it is, it makes Zeke smile as well.
The Game of Life – by Wally Pleasant 4 of 8Another love from my crazy teen years. Wally Pleasant was an independent artist in the 90's who's goofy songs are catchy and fun.
Another Day – by Pomplamoose 5 of 8If you aren't familiar with the YouTube music sensations Pomplamoose - you are missing out! Their fun upbeat style makes me head bop.
Sunday Morning – by The Velvet Underground 6 of 8Many years ago, I randomly picked up this CD in a record store. Remember those kids? The banana cover had me sold. This song and Sweet Jane still rank high on my love it list of tunes.
Fade Into You – by Mazzy Star 7 of 8I begged my husband to name our daughter Mazzy. He refused. Then when we had our second, we didn't know the sex. "If it's a girl, can we name her Mazzy?" "NO." With our third, we found out the sex. He said I could name her Mazzy, but he just said that because he knew it was a boy. Womp.
My Way – by Elvis Presley 8 of 8Don't hate on Elvis. I randomly heard this after having Zeke. The words rang clearer than ever to what I needed to do with my life. I needed to live it - so I vowed to do it my way.
