My 10-Week-Old Is Biting Me!

arianne arianne |

All of you comforted me when at 8 weeks old my baby began drooling like a boss. You told me it wasn’t teething, it was just normal development.

YOU GOT MY HOPES UP.

I believed you.

And now?

Now, girlfriend is biting. WHILE NURSING. At only 10 weeks old, she is chompin like the cookie monster.

If you’re a breastfeeding mother or once were, you have most likely experienced a biting baby. So tell me: this means she is really for real teething, right?

I am starting to dread nursing, and have to work very hard not to, because it’s way to early to already not be enjoying these sessions.

It’s been almost a week of this new gnawing and biting behavior. It happens mid-nursing session or when she is done. Like she’s turning off the tap with a little chomp.

YEOUCH.

Tell me your experience? Talk me down? Tell me it will be ok?

Arabella is almost 12 weeks, she bites WHILE she nurses. The LC says she is doing it to slow the flow of milk, but IT HURTS!!! It causes my nipple to lose blood flow and turn white.

My daughter did the same at 10 weeks…coupled with the drooling…but it turns out she was just exploring things…by 3months she was still drooling but no more biting and at 5 months not a tooth in site yet and still no biting. Hopefully it’s just a phase!

The drool faucet turned on for my little guy at two months, and hasn’t turned off since. About a month after that, he started “biting” me (clamping down HARD on my nipple while nursing), but this was very short-lived — a couple weeks, at most. Suffice to say, he is now six months old, and still no teeth. So you never can tell. I hope the teeth stay away for a while, because I do not relish the thought of baby teeth plus breastfeeding.

Nora does a little chomp every once in a while and when she does it I take her off and say, “Ow, that hurts mamma,” wait 30 seconds or so, and put her back on and that usually solves it. I don’t know why but it does. If she continues I do the same thing but keep her off longer and switch sides.

Still normal. Mine bit soooo bad with gums until about 5 months. Didn’t get teeth till 8 months. However, I figured her “tells” – if I paid attention I could get her off the nipple before the strike.
