My Favorite Summer Baby AccessoryRebekah Kuschmider
I have two kids, a baby and a 5 year old. I also have a membership to a really great pool. My older child loves, loves, loves going to the pool and I love taking him there. It’s one of the best activities I can think of for summer afternoon. However, going to the pool with two kids, one of whom can’t swim, is…challenging. I spent a fair amount of time stressing about how I was going to manage supervising my son as he swims while keeping the baby from squirming herself loose from my grasp. My son isn’t water proficient enough for me to let him do his own thing so I really needed to find a way to manage both kids safely.
I decided that what I needed was some sort of baby carrier for the pool. I asked a lot of baby wearing friends what they recommended and there was really no consensus. I spent a little time scouring Etsy and Amazon for something lightweight, fast-drying, and durable. What finally jumped out at me was the Bathing Buddies shower sling. It’s a mesh sling designed for bathing with your baby, as the name suggests, but I figured it would work for the pool as long as the material doesn’t fray due to the chemicals in the water.
The first one I ordered was a size medium and I found that it was too long; my baby sat further down on my torso than I prefer. I’m 5’7″ so for it to feel too long for me is saying something. I went ahead and ordered a size small and that works much better. Both have an upper weight limit around 24 pounds.
I’ve been using the sling for a couple of weeks and I really like it. It’s comfy for me and baby and dries fast enough that we can swim more than one time per day without it being clammy later. The fabric is durable (it’s the same kind of mesh as a laundry bag for delicates) and soft on the skin. It’s much cooler than traditional carriers, which was nice when I used it at an amusement park recently – no sweating under the carrier for me or baby! And my daughter must like it because she regularly falls asleep in it while we stand in the shallow end watching her brother jump off the edge.
This is not a paid review at all. This is just something I found and really like using so I wanted to pass it along to you!
