As a mom, Mother’s Day is a special day for me. Not because it’s a day to gush over mom, but because I can celebrate my family that helped make me a mom.
Mother’s Day seems to get better and better each year. Harlan is now old enough that she realizes what the day is all about and she loves to get involved and make my day extra special. Although Avery had no idea what the day was all about, Harlan tried to get her involved in everything and she was so happy to help her big sister out.
We spent my Mother’s Day exactly like I wanted to. Although Avery gave everyone in the apartment a 5am wake up call, my husband promptly took over and took her into the living room so that Harlan and I could cuddle up in bed and sleep in. I spent most of the morning enjoying the luxuries of breakfast in bed and the afternoon in one of my favorite spots in the city. My Mother’s Day couldn’t have been any better!

Breakfast 4 of 19
I told my husband I wanted french toast. We didn't have any bread, so he promptly ordered it. One of my favorite things about living in the city. It was delicious!
Time for Presents 5 of 19
I told my husband that sleeping in would be the perfect present. He let me do that so I really didn't expect anything else. Harlan came in with a gift and it completely surprised me.
Hurry! Open it! 6 of 19
Harlan was so anxious to open it that she almost tore it open before I could even get my hands on it.
Total Shock 7 of 19
I had absolutely no idea I was going to get this! I mentioned a few months back that because the girls have taken over my iPad that it would be nice to get a mini so that I could read on it. To my surprise, he went and got it and hid it in the apartment.
Happy Mother’s Day 8 of 19
Avery took a nap most of the morning (she woke up at 5am.) Harlan grabbed her hand to come in and tell me Happy Mother's Day. Avery had no idea what was going on, but she loved holding hands to come and tell mommy something.
Card 9 of 19
My most precious gift. Harlan wrote her name for the first time in a card. This is truly a special gift I'll cherish forever.
Brunch 10 of 19
It was gorgeous outside yesterday so we went to our favorite spot for a late lunch. Harlan rode her scooter and insisted in having her helmet on for half of the meal.
My Big Girl 11 of 19
She saw herself in the phone and decided she wanted to take off her helmet for a photo with mom.

She's so happy to be outside and eating lunch.
Central Park Visit 13 of 19
Central Park is one of our favorite places in the city to visit when it is warm outside. The Alice in Wonderland statue is Harlan's favorite so we made a stop before settling down on the grass.
Just Watching 14 of 19
When we first got to the park Avery was terrified of the grass and refused to step off of the blanket. She stood and watched my husband and Harlan play soccer.

I could watch these two play all day long.
Get in the Game 16 of 19
It took her a little bit and a lot of courage, but she finally decided to join in.

Avery and I had fun passing the ball back and forth.
