My Postpartum Style: A Look Through My Wardrobe

Shopping after having a baby isn’t much fun if you are still struggling to lose weight. The pounds haven’t come off as easily this second time around and I still have a pesky 10 pounds to lose before I’m back to my pre pregnancy weight.

To help motivate me to lose weight, I’m refusing to buy any new clothes in a bigger size just so I can have them. I’ve had to make do with what I have in my closet until I can get back to the weight I’m comfortable at.

I have splurged on a few accessories to update some of the looks I’ve had in my closet.

Being a mom doesn’t mean you have to lose your style. I still want to be stylish even though I’m not at my goal weight. I’ve learned to hide the areas I’m most self conscious about and accentuate the things I still love about my body.

Here are some of my looks that help me get through this postpartum transition phase:

  • Maxi Dress 1 of 11
    Maxi Dress
My closet is full of maxi dresses. I wore many of them three years ago when I was pregnant with my other daughter. I love them because not only are they comfortable but they are flattering on anyone! I have to be cautious of what dresses I buy and wear because I need them to be nursing friendly.
    Dress: Target, Hat: JCrew
  • Fedora 2 of 11
    Fedora
This was a must have on my sumer wardrobe list. I love this wide brimmed JCrew Fedora because it goes with almost any outfit and can make a boring outfit look great.
    Hat: JCrew
  • Colored Jeans 3 of 11
    Colored Jeans
I have a little bit of an obsession with colored jeans. They are great for the spring and summer. These are the only piece of clothes that I will buy, but I refuse to spend much money on them because I am not at my goal weight. Colored jeans look great with tops that are in the same color range and you can also pair them with a top of a completely different color but that compliments it.
Top: rag & bone, Jeans: Zara
  • Bangles and Bracelets 4 of 11
    Bangles and Bracelets
I always leave the house with some sort of accessories on my arm. They can spruce up any boring outfit and can also bring attention away from areas that you are self concious about.
Bracelet: JCrew, Bangle: NYC Street Vendor
  • Watch 5 of 11
    Watch
I have a gold and a silver watch that are staples in my wardrobe. I wear either one everyday and love them. I really like the bigger face on the watch so that it stands out on my arm more and becomes a great accessory with any outfit.
Watch: Michael Kors, Jumper on Avery: Ralph Lauren
  • Ballet Flats 6 of 11
    Ballet Flats
I walk everywhere in NYC, so it is very important to be to have great shoes that hold up and are comfortable. I love wearing ballet flats everywhere I go. My closet is full of them in all sorts of colors to pair with any outfit.
    Ballet Flats: Tory Burch
  • Floral 7 of 11
    Floral
Floral is in this spring and summer. Believe it or not I've had this skirt for YEARS. I was just looking through my closet and found it. I updated the look with a coral top and a jean vest.
Skirt: Gap, Top: JCrew, Shoes: Nine West, Denim Vest: JCrew, Necklace, H&M
  • Denim Vest 8 of 11
    Denim Vest
This is another one of my must have accessories for spring and summer. Denim is in and so is the denim vest. I can pair this with with most outfits. It looks great with maxi dresses and even paired with a great pair of colored jeans. It also hides my stomach, which is something I am self conscious of right now.
    Denim Vest: JCrew
  • Going Out 9 of 11
    Going Out
Occasionally I will get a night out with my girl friends or my husband. Because I am most comfortable in jeans I love pairing a great set of jeans with a dressier top and a great pair of heels.
Top: Zara, Jeans: Zara, Necklace: H&M, Shoes: Nine West
  • Maxi Skirt 10 of 11
    Maxi Skirt
Along with the maxi dress, I also love maxi skirts. You have to be careful though, because if you are short, like myself, they can make you look even shorter. So make sure you wear them with a great pair of wedges. The thing I love about maxi skirts is that a lot of them have elastic waist bands so that are forgiving of some of your belly you have left over from the baby. They also hide your legs (which is another part of my body I am still wanting to tone.)
Skirt: Zara, Top: American Eagle, Necklace: H&M
  • Scarf 11 of 11
    Scarf
Can you tell I'm all about accessories in my wardrobe. Even though the weather is warming up doesn't mean you have to put the scarves away. There are plenty of great bright scarves that will accentuate any outfit. I've paired this one with a simple white loose fitting top (because they hide my belly) and another pair of colored jeans.
Scarf: American Eagle, Top: H&M, Jeans: Bella Dahl
