NASCAR Driver Kasey Kahne Crashes and Burns with Anti-Breastfeeding Tweets
Hell hath no fury like women who catch wind of the fact that someone doesn’t appreciate the sight of them breastfeeding in public.
NASCAR driver Kasey Kahne, 31, learned that the hard way earlier this week when he launched a series of Tweets about losing his appetite after seeing a woman breastfeeding in the supermarket, according to Mediate.
The first Tweet said: Just walking through supermarket. See a mom breast feeding little kid. Took second look because I was obviously seeing things. I wasn’t!
But wait—there’s more!
Then he wrote: One boob put away one boob hanging!!! #nasty
Followed by: I don’t feel like shopping or eating anymore.
When a woman Tweeted he “reconsider his remarks” (or, rather, “Wow, you’re kind of a douchebag, where you propose that baby eat, the restroom? Would you eat in the restroom?”), he proceeded to call her a “dumb bitch.”
Kahne’s Tweets got plenty of “likes” from fans who saw them linked to his Facebook page. But the outrage seems to have come out on top, as he apologized on his Facebook page on Wednesday night:
My comments were not directed at the mother’s right to breastfeed. They were just a reaction to the location of that choice, and the fashion in which it was executed on that occasion. I respect the mother’s right to feed her child whenever and wherever she pleases.
What say you? Was it how Kahne said it that got him into trouble (i.e. “#nasty”)? Or is there simply no right way to say you’d rather not see an exposed woman breastfeeding in public? Or is Kahne just an idiot, period?

Maybe if his mum breastfed him he’d have more sense. If you don’t want to see a baby eating then close your eyes or look the other way. Actually don’t do either of those things, just get over it.
Wow. Really? I breasted anywhere my baby is hungry. Dirty looks and all. But I also make sure to wear nursing tops. Or a tank under my shirt. Then once baby is latched you can’t see any boob unless your TRYING to see my boob. He has a right to his own opinion but to announce it so publicly when there are thousands of redneck, ignorant people who look up to you is wrong.
What a putz
Can you say “my lawyer or publicist made me write that last statement”? Haha what a douche.
When I breastfed and most others do, they make sure to cover up. I greatly doubt some woman in a store just had them both hanging out for the whole world to see. Pervert was probably trying to get a glimpse and saw more than he bargined for.
what a dick. this makes me sad. my 6 month old wont let me use the cover anymore and i still feel like i’m going to be burned at the stake if i just straight up nurse him in public without it and this definitely doesn’t help.
i really don’t care what this guy’s opinion is about what i do with my breasts or my baby and i don’t see why his status as a nascar driver should make him have to be politically correct or be a lactivist or something. i don’t follow him on twitter cause he doesn’t interest me. i mean twitter/blogs/facebook all exist so we can comment on our daily lives and the people who care about our opinions can keep up on them. does anyone really need everyone else to love the fact that they breastfeed in the supermarket? just like it’s your right to breastfeed it’s this guys right to think your gross.
It think he’s just an ignorant a-hole. @Taz – no one is asking people to love the fact that they breastfeed in the supermarket, just asking that they don’t treat them like they’re “nasty” or gross. I agree with Taz that he has a right to his opinion, but it makes me sad that his broadcasting of it can influence all those people. Comments like his can be a real setback in the acceptance of nursing in public, or even a discouragement to breastfeeding in general. Breastfeeding is best, but many women don’t even want to try because of the social stigma.
@sara it’s my understanding that he just tweeted this and didn’t say anything to the woman who was breastfeeding. i actually have found that in the community i am in and in the community of moms online it is formula feeding that is stigmatized. for every ignorant person who gives a publicly nursing mom a dirty look there is another ignorant person who gives a dirty look to a bottle feeder..and the breast is best people are usually not afraid to start a conversation about it either. i think the goal should be acceptance and support of all moms and all of the ways that we feed our babies. none of us are failures or less than for what we can’t do or opt not to do.
