I didn’t appreciate Nat’s The Truth About Getting Your Period After A Baby post until, well, this morning. Almost 5 months to the day, my “friend” decided to return and return with vengeance.
Just what I needed.
In 13 months I haven’t had to deal with pads or tampons and I’m not about to start now. That’s right, you heard me. No Pads. No Tampons.
Nope. Instead I took a leap and tried a new product called the softcup. I was given samples at BlogHer and they explained how it worked. This is from the website.
Softcup is a flexible cup that is worn internally, around your cervix. It collects, rather than absorbs menstrual flow. It’s hypo-allergenic, latex-free and completely safe when used as directed.
I’m going to be honest, my first reaction was literally, “ewwww no friggin’ way.”
But as Nat so eloquently stated, the floodgates were opened and I had a busy day planned. There was no way I could deal with changing a tampon every 15 minutes.
So I gave it a shot.
All I can say is, “Oh My GOODNESS this thing ROCKS!”
Prepare for a little TMI…
Putting it in was really easy and not as gross as I thought it would be. When in place I was shocked that I couldn’t detect it at all. Even while running!
The package claims 12 hour protection which I’m sure would be true in a normal flow situation. Today was NOT a normal flow situation so I decided to remove it in about 6.
Now, removal was my only issue. I’m not sure if I did it incorrectly, but let’s just say I had quite a mess on my hands. That being said, it really was as easy to take out as it was to get in. So if all I have to deal with is a little spillage in the bowl, I’m ok with that. The freedom and comfort are well worth it.
I don’t think I will ever use a tampon again. Ever.
Has anyone else tried one? Thoughts? Experiences?
