No Poo for You, Paulemily
Warning: This post is about baby poop. Or more specifically, the lack thereof.
Paul’s a pretty regular guy. What goes in, typically comes out within a few hours time. I like it this way. I’m fairly certain that every day of his young life he’s had a substantial dirty diaper.
Until six days ago.
About a week and a half ago, I started Paul on solid food (a photo post of his fist meal, it’s really cute in my totally bias opinion).
The first few days, his digestive system appeared to be working business as usual. On day three, I even gave him mashed bananas, and he had a dirty diaper within the afternoon.
But on day four, after a second round of banana (he loved his banana breakfast, gobbling it up like nothing else I’ve ever seen), the poop stopped.
Paul has now gone six consecutive days without having a bowel movement. While I don’t think he’s uncomfortable or in pain (yet), I can tell that he’s pushing and grunting when he nurses.
Since then, we’ve stopped feeding him solids, except for a few small jars of prunes, because I’ve always been told that prunes will help get things moving in the right direction.
But this kid needs to take a major crap.
I’m up for suggestions. Have you ever had a constipated baby? What did you do to get the poo flowing again?
Because I’m about to give him an extra strong cup of coffee, a bran muffin, and the weekend newspaper…
