Santa Claws

baby fingernails

Ouch!

I swear, I cut Fuzz’s fingernails every single day. At least I attempt to cut them. I usually only get to do one or two before he squirms to the point where I’m too fearful I will cut off his fingers in the process.

I know I’m supposed to cut them when he’s asleep, but every time I do that he stirs. Since he doesn’t sleep so well at the moment, I’m just not willing to risk him waking up in order to clip his nails…

Other people say you’re supposed to cut them while he’s nursing. I’m one of those people that needs at least one hand for nursing, if not two. I don’t have those magic boobs that just stay in one place when I shift around. So, no dice on the nail cutting with one hand (or none).

My attempts at keeping Fuzz’s fingernails at bay have failed miserably. It’s a constant battle. I’ve tried filing after clipping, but if he won’t sit still for clipping, how the heck am I supposed to file? He’s now made a bloody scratch on his own face.  Tonight , he broke skin on my face too! Oh, and my poor boobs look like they have war paint on them.

Those nails are the gift that keeps on giving.

Danielle, one of my loyal readers,  said her daughter was cutting her own gums with her jagged nails! Ack!

I had similar problems with my older son, who now loves to have his fingernails cut and sits very still while I do it. Maybe I just have to wait it out and use a lot of neosporin?

How do you keep your baby’s nails from hurting them, or you?
