I write about my breastfeeding journey with Avery a lot. I never intended to be this open about it — if you were to ask me anything about nursing with my first daughter, Harlan, my face would have immediately turned red and I wouldn’t have said anything.
Fast forward two years later, and I am more open than I ever thought I would be. I am a lot more confident in my decisions that I make as a mother now that I have a second child, which in turn has made me a lot more open to sharing my victories and my struggles.
I share my breastfeeding journey with Avery for the support that I get from the online community. I’ve told you before that I don’t get much support from my doctors. But I know that I can simply come and write a post about my struggles, or my accomplishments, and many of you will comment giving me advice or praise. It is the most amazing feeling knowing that you have others that have gone through or are going through many of the same things that you are.
There isn’t a breastfeeding struggle that I haven’t shared with you. Rather than calling up my doctor with a concern, I’m able to write about it instead. It’s therapeutic to put it all out there and it’s reassuring reading the comments knowing that I am not alone in my breastfeeding struggles. Writing about it and reading your comments makes me feel like I am a part of this community. Despite the fact that you may live far away, and that we don’t even know each other, we share a bond.
