When Zeke was born, he was welcomed into the world by 2 brothers and a sister. Over the last 12 months, we have witnessed a good dose of sibling rivalry from each of our children. Each child has acted out in their own way when it came to trying to cope with having a new baby in the house.
Our 2-year old, Izaiah had his world changed when Zeke was born. All of the sudden his world with him having all the attention was gone and the cause was this cute little thing that looked just like him. Just 16 months, when Zeke was born – Izaiah was a baby himself. There were tantrums and tears and destruction. While I would love to say the sibling rivalry part of his acting out is gone, no such luck. I see many years ahead of this, but that can only be expected and it’s no where near as bad as it was a year ago.
Our older to kids Z, 9-years old and E, 7-years old — while older still acted out the first few months after Zeke was born. It was much less dramatic than when we had our third child, but it still happened none the less.
Sibling rivalry is a part of life with siblings in general and will happen most likely for the years to come. I have friends who are in their 30’s still dealing with this! While the first few months can be bad, just know it will get better and their love and acceptance of the baby will come in due time.
Watching how each child has grown to love Zeke has been heart warming. While Izaiah didn’t take too him immediately, a year later I can say they are best friends.
