The Next Generation of Friendship

Today, one of my dearest friends, Kristen, stopped by with her sweet newborn daughter, Eliana. Kristen and I have been friends for years. We spent some of our wildest nights in college out on the town together. She was a bridesmaid in my wedding and most recently, we were blessed to go through our pregnancies side by side.

With all of the life experiences we’ve shared together, it felt particularly special today to lay our children down next to one another. Arlo and Eliana were born only eleven days a part. It’s fun to imagine what sort of adventures these two little people will have together – birthday parties, family vacations, weekend cookouts.

Kristen and I sat on the couch across from one another – each of us nursing a hungry baby and sharing stories of sleepless nights and poopy diapers. We’ve come so far from those giggly girls in our early twenties, walking arm and arm to meet our friends for drinks on a Friday night. Since then we’ve started careers, fallen in love, gotten married and now  here we both are starting families.

With years of memories between us, we sat in comfortable silence and watched a new generation of friendship begin.
