Cullen has taught himself a new trick this week. It’s always something new, right? I have loved watching him reach all of his other milestones – rolling, chewing, grabbing, smiling, laughing, and most recently – crawling.
But this latest one is one I could do without. I’m sure developmentally there is some sort of purpose for it, but as of now it really just feels like a nuisance.
So what is his newest favorite activity?
He has realized that if he hurls his arm back and releases, he can send toys and pacifiers flying several feet out of the stroller or up into the air. At first I thought it was just a product of him flailing and trying to gain better control of his arms and movements. But after our two most recent stroller outings, I’m starting to realize that he’s doing this intentionally – and for fun!
Yesterday I tried to go for a run with the jogging stroller, and I eventually turned around after three (yes three!) different people approached me with toys they had seen go flying from the sides of the stroller. I thanked them and apologized, before taking all the toys hostage and forcing him to run home with only a blanket left for entertainment.
I have to imagine the tricks and skills only get more and more difficult to manage as these little guys gain more control and coordination. Of course growing up and reaching milestones is a good thing, but it sure does make a mama’s job more interesting!
