The One Item Every Mom Needs In Her Wardrobe and 5 Ways To Style It

By Lauren Hartmann |

The One Item Every Mom Needs In Her WardrobeIn the world of fashion, black is a timeless classic. It is the epitome of chic and contrary to popular belief nothing will ever truly be “the new black.”

In addition to the black being endlessly stylish, it’s also great for moms because it covers a multitude of sins… baby puke, diaper explosions, leaky nursing incidents and postpartum body challenges, you name it. Black will have your back. Example: this weekend when we were at a birthday party and Fern peed all over my lap. Aside from the fact that I had pee on me, the incident was minimized due to the fact that I was wearing black.

Because of the awesomeness of black and the absolutely essential nature of great fitting jeans for moms, I give you the one item that every mom needs in her wardrobe: a pair of black jeans. These ones from Levi’s are my favorite since they have all the comfort of leggings, but leave you looking much more pulled together and they are incredibly versatile. I pulled together 5 different looks, a style for all occasions, to show you just how much mileage you can get out of them!

Check out 5 ways to style your black jeans after the jump!

Date Night

This outfit would be great for a dinner and a movie date if you manage to get a sitter - nothing too fancy, but black jeans feel a little more "special" for a night out than basic blues (although those are great too!). The outfit is fun and feminine with little pops of color brought in through accessories. And of course, heels are a necessity since you won't need to chase after little ones - take advantage of it!

I have to admit, I do not own a pair of black jeans. Of course, I’ve never been known as stylish. These looks are great, and I’m definitely putting black jeans on my wishlist.

LOVE LOVE LOVE my black jeans, they go with anything. They’re the perfect jean for my “mom uniform” but they also give me the perfect amount of sass and class for my night out with the girls

  3. Riley says:

Black skinnies = LOVE. Seriously, like my favorite thing in my closet – they go with everything and are always flattering!

Black skinny jeans are so versatile and great all year round. I just wish I could keep them from fading so quickly!

  7. laurenhartmann says:

    Emily,

Wash your jeans less often and when you do wash them on a gentle cycle in cold water. You could also just do a cold water and vinegar rinse and hand wash. I’ve also heard that putting your jeans in the freezer for a bit while kill any bacteria and smells and shrink the jeans back up to their proper size.

And if all else fails, break out the Rit dye and redye those jeans to their original dark black!

  8. Stacey says:

I love all the options you came up with… Especially “sweet and simple.” That’s pretty much my look on a daily basis :)

  9. Marian says:

Love the edgy chic look – that is so me :)

Not only do I not own a pair of black jeans, I’ve never in my lived had such a pair. I suddenly feel that my denim life has been wasted. I’m going to look for a pair this weekend!
