Over the past couple of months, I’ve shared with you the struggles that we’ve had to get Avery to gain weight. It’s been a slow process, but it’s something that we have been successful with so far. We are in to her GI doctor every couple of weeks to check her weight and every check up has showed weight gain which means that the extra things we are doing are working.
On Saturday, I went shopping with Harlan. I found the cutest jeans for Avery but was very reluctant to get them. It’s so hard to buy clothes for her because he body is so teeny tiny. Most of the clothes she is wearing right now are 3-6 months. At nearly 11 months old, that just tells you how tiny she is. I just put her 0-3 month clothes away last month. Crazy right?
I pick up the 6-12 month jeans feeling foolish that I was buying jeans that were just going to swallow her. I told myself I didn’t want to buy her jeans that were 3-6 months because we are trying to get this girl to grow and it would be dumb of me to buy clothes that she clearly should be too small for.
I bought the “bigger” size and went home with the mindset that she would just grow into them. This morning as we were getting ready to start our day, I grabbed the jeans out of the bag just to get a look at how big they were on her. I expected them to fall off right away and look ridiculous on her.
But, much to my surprise, I pulled up the jeans and the fit. They stayed on her waist, weren’t too long, and even looked like the skinny jeans that they were supposed to be. As crazy as it sounds tears came to my eyes. This proved to me that all of our hard work is finally paying off. Avery is gaining weight and I don’t need the scale to tell me that because the jeans have done all of the talking. I know it’s silly to get emotional over a pair of jeans, but with all that Avery has been through in the past two months with numerous tests and multiple doctors appointments, things are looking up. And all it took was a pair of jeans to show me that.
