Turning One Year Into Fifteen Minutes

It's so hard to narrow down all my favorite pictures and videos!

With Cullen’s first birthday party just around the corner, I am in full party planning mode.  For the most part, I’ve waited until the last minute to figure out party details.  There’s not really a theme – just some basic colors – and I still have no idea what kind of cake to make.

But there is one first birthday detail that I have had planned for many months – the video.  I’m working on putting together a short video compilation of Cullen’s first year – picking from the (literally) thousands and thousands of photos and 100+ videos we’ve taken over twelve wonderful months.

I got started this weekend, and quickly realized how tough it’s going to be to pare down all our favorites, and shorten the videos to just snippets.  So far I’ve included and edited the first three months, and the video is already up to six minutes!  I’ll definitely have to go back and make more cuts as I go – my final goal is to get it under fifteen minutes at most.

I have already watched the first draft of just the first few months several times, and I tear up every time the music kicks in.  I’m starting to get really emotional now that the first birthday is rapidly approaching.  I’m sure it’s no surprise to hear that it’s been the best year of my life.  I’m sure every new mom says just that.  But it really has, and now I understand why every mom says that – because it’s so wonderful and so true.

I hope to do the same thing for each of my kids, and give them something special and personal to look back at when they are older and grown.  And I know it will mean a lot to our extended family who live many miles away.  I’m having so much fun putting it together.  I just hope now that I can edit it down so that people don’t fall asleep watching.

Three weeks til showtime!
