When we asked our then 7-year old daughter what she wanted for Christmas last year, she replied “a baby”. She was talking a real child, not a baby doll. The problem was, is that we had a baby.
Our third child Izaiah was 9-months old at the time. One baby wasn’t enough. She wanted another little baby, ideally a sister. I laughed and told her “Sorry sweetie, that’s not going to happen”.
Christmas passed and Santa did not bring her a baby last Christmas day. What I didn’t know was that Santa had brought me a baby. I found out a few days after Christmas that I was pregnant with our fourth child (9 weeks pregnant!).Our baby Zeke was our unexpected Christmas gift for 2010.
When we told our daughter the news, she was ecstatic. The next 6 months, she carefully watched my belly grow. She talked to her new sibling each night, wrote all about the baby in her diary and told everyone every detail of my pregnancy. Since his arrival, my daughter is his second mother. You would think this baby was her’s and I was just the surrogate.
Santa obviously hears the wishes of little girls and grants them. Even if that wish is an unexpected Christmas gift in for form of a baby.
While we didn’t plan for this little thing. God knew what we needed. As I’ve said before, our baby has changed our lives. Our Zeke is the best unexpected gift.
