What Time of The Month? I Don’t Have Periods.
I remember exactly when I had my last period. It was the end of July, 2010. At the time, it was devastating. My husband and I were trying to conceive, and I had convinced myself that I was pregnant. I had put on 6 lbs and I was late-ish. I never had a standard 28-day cycle, so “being late” was fairly relative. When that monthly visitor came, we were so discouraged we thought we should stop trying all together and run off to Europe for a year instead.
Obviously, I got pregnant the very next month. I then went nine glorious months without a period, and let me tell you I didn’t miss it one bit. I had Tate and started biding my time until I starting having periods again. I am still waiting.
Don’t get me wrong, I still don’t miss having a period, but frankly 16 months later it’s a little unnerving when another month comes and goes without it. I’ve heard that I may not get another period until I wean Tate (which I have no intention of doing any time soon).
If you nursed, how long before your periods came back? And how was it?

4 months. I know, I TOTALLY GOT CHEATED, right?! I nursed exclusively, bed-shared, everything. My body hates me. I never got the nifty break. As for how it was when it came back? That’s different for every woman and yes, each pregnancy. After my first, my periods mellowed WAY out. Scant, so light I got away with pantyliners most of the time, and no cramps. After the second? Dear gods, I feel like I’m 17 again. Heavy, a week long, tons of pain. And this is my last kid. I’m afraid I’ll be stuck like this forever! *cries*
Mine came back when my daughter was 11 months old – just in time for my husband’s and my romantic anniversary weekend (our first night away since she was born!). Around that time I was only breastfeeding morning and night, and sometimes once through the day. Since my period’s come back it has been light, and I’m hoping it stays that way!!
11 months. Around the time our middle of the night feeds stopped. Glad to get more sleep. Not glad to start up again.
I haven’t had a period in over three years! My first daughter was 17 months when I got pregnant with my second and I still hadn’t gotten my period back but was able to get pregnant again. It was nice not having one, but we were ready to start trying for our second and I was worried I wasn’t ovulating and wouldn’t be able to get pregnant. My second is almost 5 months old now and I haven’t gotten it yet!
I gave birth in May & just got my period back this month. I’ve recently tapered off on the frequency of breastfeeding & am supplementing more with formula, so I’m sure that hastened its return. I am not on any form of hormonal birth control.
I had a PPH, so seeing the blood is a bit traumatic, but at the same time it feels like the normal order of things.
My son is 16 months old, and I still haven’t gotten my period. However, I recently dropped down to two feedings a day (one before bed and one in the morning), and I think I will be getting my period any day now. This is my second child, so I know better what to expect
I’m with you on this. Last period? September 2010. Still waiting for it to return… (But not too anxiously, it can stay away awhile longer!)
14 months and 16 months after birth for my first and second kid respectively, when I was down to one feeding per day. The third is only 4 m.o. I only had four periods between #1 and #2 but they were very much like before I had kids. I never got a period (but obviously ovulated) between #2 and #3, so no data there on how the periods were.
My daughter was born Jan 18 and my 1st (& only) period after that start June 16. Talked to my doctor about it and because I am an “older” mom (I was 36 when DD was born) he thought I might be in early menopause…especially after I didn’t have a “visitor” in July. Well, long story short….my thinking I was in early menopause and still nursing my daughter, we (the doctor, me) didn’t think much of it and decided to wait until after my vacation to start treatment. I got pregnant on my vacation. I am now 20 weeks along. So much for early menopause! With exception of that one period in June of this year, I haven’t had a “visitor” since March of 2010. It’s nice…but was worrisome at first. No stressing out for you…if you’re exclusively breast-feeding, you may not have regular periods or any at all until you start to wean. Use some form of birth control, though. Unless you want another baby soon!
My daughter is 19 months old and still breastfeeds about three times a day. But, my period resumed about eight weeks postpartum. I had about a two week break from the end of postpartum bleeding until my period returned. But, I don’t mind really. My period has gotten a little lighter. How do the rest of you know you aren’t pregnant? Each month I am greatly relieved to start my period.
