Who You're From

Our (second) Wedding Day

I’m ashamed to admit I don’t know most of my parent’s story. How they met, where they met, where they got married and how. I do know that my mom wasn’t even a mom at my age, motherhood was still another year off for her. There are a few photos I can remember seeing in old photo albums growing up, of a wedding, my sister and me as newborn babies and of my parents on beaches and in Europe together. I have every intention of learning their stories and compiling all of their photos before they are gone.

When your dad and I were married digital photography was still very new, our entire wedding was shot on film and all of that film has gone missing. The only things I have left are some photos that I had printed years ago that have been stuck into albums.

Fearing something happening to the one and only copies of these photos I spent a morning scanning them in, and here are some of my most favorite, the ones that will show you who your parents were before we were your parents.

  • I was a cheerleader. 1 of 9
    I was a cheerleader.
Outside my yearbook this is the only proof I have that I ever was a cheerleader. I'm the one with the sunglasses and wide open mouth.
  • Baby Bride. 2 of 9
    Baby Bride.
I was only 19 years old and over the moon to be marrying your dad.
  • Our First Alone Time 3 of 9
    Our First Alone Time
This was captured by a guest at our wedding. We only have this one copy but it is by far my favorite. It was our first quiet time alone together in weeks, and the first time as husband and wife.
  • Our Honeymoon. 4 of 9
    Our Honeymoon.
This is one of the only pictures that exists of us on our honeymoon in Vail, Colorado. See also: Don't honeymoon in Vail and we need a real honeymoon.
  • Aunt Cheryl 5 of 9
    Aunt Cheryl
She passed away four weeks before I found out I was pregnant with you. You are named after her and she is the reason I am who I am.
  • Aunt Cheryl’s Veil 6 of 9
    Aunt Cheryl's Veil
I was able to wear her veil that her uncle sent from France during the war when your dad and I were sealed in the temple.
  • Sissy, Tiny Gramma, Aunt Cheryl and Me. 7 of 9
Sissy, Tiny Gramma, Aunt Cheryl and Me.
Some of the most influential ladies in my life, all together on one of the biggest days of my life.
  • Our Trip to California 8 of 9
    Our Trip to California
Also the trip your sister just happened to be conceived on.
  • Just Us 9 of 9
    Just Us
Tiny Grandma got a new camera and asked if we'd pose for her. I think I was making fun of her in this photo which is why your dad is smiling so big.

Many thanks to Canon for sponsoring this post and for providing me with a brand new shiny PIXMA printer that easily scanned in well over a hundred photos in under an hour. Now my most treasured memories are digital as well.
