You Might Be a Bad Mom If…

By Danielle |

Bad Mom… I guess you could really call it a subjective term. What I would consider to be a bad mom, you may think to be the next June Cleaver, right?

No matter who we come across as parents, or what the parenting style of others may be, there will always be someone different, or who you clash with on opinions.

Which leads me to a post I have been working on for a while. It is no news that I have some serious critics out there. And over the past two years I have been a contributor here on Babble, I have learned how much of a horrible mother I am from the internets!

Some of the suggestions and comments just make me shake my head and laugh hysterically though. The sheer ridiculousness of some of it makes me wonder what other simple issues in day-to-day life these people make into monumental, Earth shattering crisis situations.

OMG! A happy meal! Your kids are going to grow up to be fat diabetics!
OMG! You don’t shop organic?
The world is over because you enjoy coffee or getting your nails manicured!

All the ridiculousness we all have come to embrace as the mothering community online!

Without any further ado, the list I have made of why I am such a horrible mother!

I'm a Bad Mom!

Because I Get My Nails Done

While I don't go to a salon anymore to get my nails done, I still take the time to do them myself. Apparently if you decide you want to take care of yourself in certain ways besides just showering and looking presentable in society... you are a bad mom!

I want to be your BBMF, Best Bad Mom Friend. :)

  2. Wendy says:

oh, Fuck it. I’m a bad mom, too. I do pretty much al the things you do, except the tatoos- and OMG I have been known to CURSE, too.

My kids are doing great, so I dont give a rip about what others think. So there.
PS You are good mom. Lt’s meet at McDonalds or Starbucks and chat!

When you were posting your meal plans on line, your choices for regular everyday meals were not what I would consider healthy. You tweet about eating out on a regular basis. It’s not just occasional. The only indications you give that you aren’t watching your kids at all times are things like food found in a boot and crap under the sofa and destroyed areas. I have 4 kids and can honestly say my kids did none of that. People are reacting to what you are telling-it’s all they have to go on. Perhaps these lapses occured when you took your eyes off them for a split second. Or perhaps you like to blog while they are playing. I do recall you castigationg other Moms for doing that. And I am not the only one. MANY people remember you saying one thing-and now changing what you say. It makes you look dishonest. Especially if the two statements are only days apart. I am sure you will block this comment though. It’s what you do.

I love it when people get all het up about the things other people choose to share. If it doesn’t impact them, and it’s not hurting anyone, why the hell should anyone else care? Blogging about crap kids destroy is funny, blogging about them playing nicely and picking up their toys is eyeroll inducing.

  5. krissy says:

Fuck I guess im a horrible mom too..Sandy no offense but I have 4 kids also and its IMPOSSIBLE to keep your eyes on all of them 24/7…you must be a smothering parent! I have found food under my couch,in my kids make messes, they don’t listen 99% of the time and they are one has the right to judge other people’s parenting..i play video games instead of cleaning when my baby naps some days,I guess that makes me a horrible mother too..Danielle,Wendy,K.C.,we should all meet for coffee and happy meals and be bad parents together :)

  6. Tena says:

Wow, I must be a bad mom too. I don’t think you’re a bad mom. I do question your sanity about deep fried pickles, but that’s only because I have a deeply seeded aversion to pickles in general.

  7. Crystal T says:

Hmmmm..where to start….nobody is perfect! There said it and I don’t understand why some people think that they are. I’m not sure why ppl criticize you so much, but to Sandy Jones…..stuff happens. I have one 2 year old and he is all over the place. And I admit…I am a little bit of a helicopter mom…I see danger in everything..ha! But, you know what….he still trips over things, bumps his head, and hides things in crazy places. It happens. I guess we just aren’t lucky enough to have perfect kids like yours…ha!

  8. DeathMetalMommy says:

First, fried pickles are the shizz. With that said, @Sandy Jones if Danielle blocks unsavory comments why are we having to read yours? How would you even know she does it if they are blocked…unless you have said MORE uncool stuff that got blocked? Be on the look out for hot pink hair and a belly jewel, ladies, I smell a Troll!

  9. Crystal says:

Ok so I must be a bad mom too. Out of the 10 things I do over half of them. I’m an individual and I expect my kids to be the same. I don’t want them to be boring people when adults. I’d had rather them stand out and be what they want and who, like me. With that being said, as a mom with 4 kids who has tattoos and goes out occasionally, and studying to be a nurse, I’m happy with who and what I do. If someone doesn’t agree with it, then that’s not person I want to be around or want around my kids.
Also my 15 yr ol daughter asked if she could get a tattoo when she got older, I told her that was fine with me. That she would just have to take me with her. I didn’t want her going somewhere gross. Guess I’m an awful parent!
And to Sandy Jones ^ why do u even follow
Danielle if u don’t seem to like what she posts????

  10. Jennifer says:

I had no idea how much I sucked. Bad moms unite!
