A few weeks back I was sent a copy of Pam Allyn’s new book, Your Child’s Writing Life: How to Inspire Confidence, Creativity, and Skill at Every Age. I have been eating it up since.
(After the jump, a giveaway!)
As a writer myself (if I can call myself that), I value more than anything in the world our ability to communicate, express emotions, and relate to each other via the written word. In her book, Pam discusses the five keys to helping kids write: word power, ritual, independence, time, and environment. I love it especially because these five elements are so essential in every part of raising children, and are wonderful skills for parents to learn as well.
I count myself so lucky to have this book in my library, as I know I’ll come back to it often over the years as Huck grows and learns to communicate and express himself better, and as I learn how to navigate this whole “teaching kids to do stuff” world (yikes!).
And guess what? One lucky reader of Baby’s First Year will be just as lucky! You can enter to win your own copy of Your Child’s Writing Life by leaving a comment below. A winner will be chosen on Huck’s birthday (Wednesday the 26th).
Good luck and happy commenting!
