3 Ways to Apply BlushSonya Benham
Blush is one of my favorite cosmetics. As a busy working mother, I get pretty tired. I find that adding a little color to my cheeks really brightens up my face and makes me look better rested and healthy. Best of all, a rosy glow makes me look younger. That’s a pretty big benefit for something that only takes a few seconds to apply. Where you apply your blush makes a difference.
There are a few different ways to apply blush, depending on the areas you’d like to accent. Each blush position has it’s own look and it’s fun to switch it up for different occasions or moods. In this post, I will show you how to 3 ways apply blush, offering tips and pointers for each. Experiment with all three and choose the style that works best for you.
Blush Look #1
This classic blush application adds color while contouring your face. It highlights your cheekbones and works very well for rounder faces. It is also a great look for nighttime as it’s a bit more dramatic. This style is best achieved with powder blush and a blush brush. The color is applied just under your cheekbone and blended up around the side of your face. Instead of sweeping the color upward, use shorter strokes at a 45 degree angle toward your jawline. This creates a more natural appearance.

Blush Look #2
A less dramatic look for daytime, this blush application is fantastic for heart or oval shaped faces. It provides a bit of contouring but at a less steep angle than blush look #1. Using a blush brush, apply a powder blush in a circular motion along the bottom of your cheekbone, blending outward toward your ear.
I used Nars Orgasm Blush, available at Nars $30
Blush Look #3
This is my favorite way to apply blush. It works well for thinner or square faces. I love this look for summertime especially, as you apply the color where the sun would hit your face. For this style, I prefer a cream blush. Smile and dab the blush onto the apples of your cheek in a round shape and blend. If desired, add a bit to the bridge of your nose to look like you’ve just come from the beach.
