The most recent mascara to take the beauty world by storm has been Benefit’s “They’re Real”. It’s one of the most talked about mascaras. I hear rave reviews from beauty vloggers, my friends, and random strangers talking about it at the store.
I tried it, of course, when it first came out. It sounded like a dream come true.
I’m also a huge Benefit fan. I love their cream eyeshadows and their blushes.
But I have to say — and I may be the only one who feels this way — I was generally unimpressed with “They’re Real.”
Maybe it was the quick drying action that made it hard to work with, but I found the mascara to be very spider-y and stiff. Sure, that will help hold a curl and encourage easy volume building, but it made it a challenge to work with.
I also found it to be quite heavy. I happen to have the wimpiest lashes on the planet, so I’m very picky when it comes to mascara in the first place. I like definition and fullness, but I need it to have zero weight. Any weight on my lashes pulls them straight down.
I’ve tried layering “They’re Real” over other mascaras to see if that made it workable for me, but that didn’t seem to help. Needless to say, I gave up on it. I moved back to my CoverGirl Lash Blast and L’Oreal Voluminous False Fiber Lashes combination.
And I haven’t regretted that decision yet!
Am I the only one that isn’t in love with Benefit’s They’re Real?
