I asked a few of my beauty blogging friends for their favorite summer beauty tips. Some answers seem to be universal, you should definitely be priming before applying makeup and waterproof makeup is great for all day wear. But, it turns out there are a lot of layering tricks to learn!
"Apply a mattifying primer, a powder or gel, before makeup. Then waterproof all the things! Mascara, Eyeliner, Eyeshadow, Blush Foundation, Concealer, etc. Setting powder on top of your finished look and then a good spritz of a setting spray." - Pink Sith
"We've all suffered from the dreaded orange palms from applying self tanner and that's easily remedied with a good scrub. But what about stained nails? Apply a thin layer of lip balm or cuticle cream on the nail plate, cuticle and under the nail to act as a barrier. The extra nail nourishment is just an added bonus!" - Michelle Mismas, All Lacquered Up
"Less is more. If you can get away with using a tinted moisturizer or BB Cream give it a shot! You can also consider a product that does it all: conceal, cover and SPF protection. If you have oily skin reach for a foundation with a gel formula!" - Aprill, Glitter.Gloss.Garbage
"Aside from using primer, a great makeup setting/refreshing spray helps to keep makeup from melting in the sweltering heat. The best place to keep it? In the refrigerator! Not only is it refreshingly cold on your skin when coming in from the outdoors, but the cold temporarily tightens your skin by constricting blood flow and calms facial redness." - Shannon Smyth, A Girl's Gotta Spa!
"For eyeshadows, priming is a must! Don't apply extra moisture to the eye area or your shadows will crease in a few areas. After you apply your daily moisturizer with SPF and let it sink in, blot off any excess oils on your lid. If you've got really oily lids, you can apply a bit of translucent powder."
"Then apply your eyeshadow primer. I reach for Too Faced Shadow Insurance or Cover FX Anti-Age Smoothing eyeshadow primer. Apply your eyeshadow as normal. You can dust a little translucent powder on top if you feel you need it."
"Then spray your face with a makeup setting spray. My choices are Model in a Bottle or Urban Decay All Nighter." - Phyrra
"Avoid mascara on your bottom lashes! Give yourself a fighting chance to avoid the summer raccoon eyes! Coat your lashes with a sealer after your final coat of mascara. Both bareMinerals and Anastasia make fantastic ones!" - Kelly, Gouldylox Reviews
"When all else fails, it's easy to keep summer lips looking luscious! Try lining your lips and following up with a gloss. The result is a sexy, glossy lip that lasts way longer than usual. For lips that don't budge for hours, try a Liquid Lipstick from Hourglass. When paired with their Panoramic Lip Liner, the color lasts for hours and your lips feel super soft and never dry." -Kelly, Gouldylox Reviews
"Switch from a heavy foundation to a BB or CC cream for lightweight coverage. The best summer foundation I've found is IT Cosmetics CC cream. It’s got great coverage, is highly moisturizing, blends well, is available in a variety of shades and looks completely natural!" - Cindy, Prime Beauty
"CoverFX CC Cream not only has SPF 30, but its formula is perfect for hot summer days. The application is easy and the coverage is fantastic." - Brittany, Clumps of Mascara
"I like to use tinted sunscreen in summer for double duty wear. My go to tinted sunscreen is Physicians Formula Healthy Wear. it is super high SPF and wears really well. Cream products also will standup to sweat better than powder and when they sweat off they do so much more gracefully. For cream products, I love all of the Make Up Forever Aqua products, especially the aqua cream shadows and aqua eyes liners. They are pretty much sweat proof!" - Carleen, Beauty and Fashion Tech
