Book Last-minute Appointments with the New Beautified AppSonya Benham
A new app hit the mobile market on May 22, 2013. Called Beautified, the app lets you schedule last-minute beauty appointments with a curated list of salons and spas.
Born of frustration, the app sets out to remedy a “first-world problem”: not being able to get a same-day beauty appointment may not be life or death, but it can be frustrating. So Hannah Bronfman (DJ, model, entrepreneur, restaurateur, and it-girl) created Beautified’ with co-founders Annie Evans and Peter Hananel.
The app connects its users with openings at top-notch salons and spas. Beautified uses geolocation technology to find the most convenient locations and helps businesses fill empty slots due to last-minute cancellations. Booking through Beautified is meant for same-day appointments; openings for the following day are not released until 6:00 PM the previous day. At this time, the app is only available in New York City, but there are plans to release versions for Los Angeles, Miami, Dallas, and Chicago.
As a stylist, I have mixed feelings about the app. I worry that society’s demand for immediacy threatens the stylist-client relationship that I truly love. But I totally understand. Sometimes you have an unexpected reason to spiff up or treat yourself. Or maybe time slipped away and you didn’t get around to booking ahead. Whatever the reason, I’d rather my clients see a skilled technician than just wander into any mystery salon or spa. And variety is the spice of life, no? (If you love someone, set them free … )
I also really love that you can’t, at this time, book color through the app. Color is not something you should do on a whim, and I appreciate that the folks at Beautified understand that. They researched the services people tend to book last minute and found that color isn’t one of them. The services currently available are manicures, pedicure, brow waxes, haircuts, bikini waxes, massages, facials, and blowouts.
At this time, the Beautified is a free service. What do you think? Is this an app you would use?
