DIY Nails: Oxblood Manicure

I bought the September issue of InStyle a week ago and found almost every page inspirational. I started ripping out pages to create a mood board and bookmarking tip after tip. I don’t know if it’s the style and beauty editing or the fact that I am so over summer, but any hint of burgundy and plaid sends me straight into autumn heaven.

Their nail art ideas were very classy, understated, and great for every day. I don’t want my nails to overpower my outfit. I want them to complement my look. This Oxblood Manicure is perfect for all of my weekend plans. It goes great with a pair of jeans or a cocktail dress.

Here's a step-by-step on how you can take a classic look and add a bit of edge this fall.

I used the L'Oreal's Haute Couture Red nail polish. It's a bit on the darker side, but it's a really beautiful, rich color.

Here's the article that inspired me. I was sold at "negative space" and the part about not looking too done.

I could have easily done this freehand, but knowing me, I would have obsessed over the line not being straight enough. I got these strips from Sally Hansen. Since I didn't want it to look too much like a French manicure, I placed the strips a bit lower than mid-nail so it could look more like the photo.

Just apply the color straight on the nail. No base coat.

Let your nails dry, and carefully remove the strips. If the line isn't straight because a little bit of polish got underneath the strip, just use nail polish remover and a Q-tip to straighten it out.

Just add a gloss and you're done!

Super simple, yet a great alternative to a traditional French manicure.
