DIY Nails: The Holiday Moonicure

My poor nails needed a break from gel manicures because they’re super soft now. But what to do? I’m a nail biter and as soon as the gel coating comes off, I go back to my bad habits. I actually have nail biting as a big no-no in my Cuticle Care post, and yet I find it to be such a bad habit to break. I figured if I added a little holiday cheer to them, I will not want to mess them up! Feeling the spirit already, I decided to try out the moonicure with a bit of sparkle. Here’s my tutorial for a holiday moonicure that works for both long and short nails!

The holiday moonicure is a simple nail art design with a lot of holiday spirit!

  • OPI The Thrill of Brazil 2 of 8

You can use any red you'd like, but I chose The Thrill of Brazil by OPI because I wanted something vibrant and festive. To make the arch, you can use these Sally Hansen strips or go freehand with a Detailer Brush like the one I am using by Orly.

I painted the arch as an outline on each nail, and then I went in and colored the rest with my polish. I applied two coats.

  • Sally Hansen UV Top Coat 4 of 8

Wait about 30 minutes for your nail to dry. Add your gloss. I used Sally Hansen UV Top Coat found in their French Manicure Kit.

  • Nail Art Rhinestones 5 of 8
    glitter

I found this little set of nail art rhinestones at my local beauty store, but you can get the whole kit and kaboodle for more options!

  • Add Rhinestones 6 of 8
    glitterpen

After applying your top coat, add your rhinestones before it dries.

  • Let nails dry 7 of 8

The top coat is very thick so it took quite a while for these nails to dry. But my rhinestones are super secured on my nail!

All ready for the holiday festivities!
