Drugstore vs. Department Store: When to Splurge and Save on Beauty ProductsAlli McGinnis
There are so many choices in beauty products out there, from walking down the aisles at your local drug store to gliding by the fancy counters at the department stores. So how’s a girl to know where to splurge and when to save? For starters, ingredients are the main factor for me when choosing skincare products. I believe less is more! Especially when it comes to the ingredient list. That being said, I have fallen in love with some real winners at the drugstore that my beauty regimen simply can’t live without.
Check out my top 3 tips for deciding when to go drugstore or department — and click through the slideshow for my favorite beauty bargains and splurges!
1. Invest more in skincare products with high-quality natural ingredients (natural oils such as rose and argan, antioxidants, Vitamin C and Vitamin D) and less fillers (parabens, synthetic dyes and fragrances, petrochemicals, sulfates) .
2. I use to drop $30-$50 on a bottle of shampoo, hairspray or a hair mask. Hair products have come a long way and I find there are many alternatives in the drugstores at a fraction of the price. A few of my favorite brands are Organix, Aveeno and Loreal EverPure
3. Makeup such as eyeshadow, blush and lipstick can easily be swapped out for your expensive department stores brands when shopping on a budget. What most people don’t know is that almost all makeup is made at the same warehouses with the same ingredients. The cosmetics companies slightly change an ingredient or two and then put their own label on it.
