How To Keep Your Blonde Hair Blonde, in Between Salon Visits

We’re all naturally blonde, right? I mean, at least we started out that way… or most of us anyway, but being blonde as an adult is expensive and keeping blonde tresses their perfect shade of blonde, is upkeep indeed. And, if we’re going to foot the mighty salon bills, then we may as well do our part to keep our blonde hairs looking their best until it’s time to go back and do it all over again.

Below are a few of my favorite methods for keeping my faux tow head flaxen in between salon visits, {which also allows me to go a few extra weeks, if not an entire month before making another date with my stylist}.

Color Specific Shampoo and Conditioner.

I actually love DOVE’s “Color Repair” shampoo & conditioner, but any duo that’s formulated for color-treated hair should suffice. Note: I wash my hair about 3 times a week.

Purple Shampoo.

There are quite a few purple shampoo options on the market now {like Blondeshell Keratin Complex and Aveda Blue Malva Shampoo}, but my tried and true is Clairol Shimmer Lights Shampoo which you can find at any beauty supply for around $6-$12. It’s a bit drying so I mix it with my DOVE Color Repair for the best of both worlds. I’ve tried a handful of purple conditioners as well, and found that they aren’t really necessary as long as you use the shampoo. Stick to your favorite conditioner.

Mixing purple shampoo with color care shampoos keeps your blonde from getting brassy!

I actually don’t use masks that often because I’m pretty happy with my color using the two methods above, but I have tried Dove Reviving Mask Advanced Color Care For Lightened or Highlighted Hair which leaves my hair very silky, smooth, and shiny. Highlights and bleaches tend to dry out the hairs more than other colors, so a replenishing mask once or twice a month is just a bonus.

Temporary Root Touch Ups.

When you know it’s time to make an appointment with your stylist but just can’t fit her into your schedule {or your budget} I LOVE LOVE LOVE Keratin Complex Volumizing Dry Shampoo {$24} which is specifically for blondes {though they make it for brunettes too}. With it’s golden shimmery hue and lifting power, it really lightens my roots up a few shades and immediately gives my hair a boost. Which also means, I can go another day without a wash!
