I love me some lip color and recently I found my new favorite: Yves Saint Laurent ROUGE PUR COUTURE Glossy Stain in #12 Coril Fauve. It seriously changed my life and it’s super flattering on everyone I know who’s tried it. The only problem? It’s a whopping $34.00…I wish I could insert that appalled looking emoji face right now…yeah…you know the one. So, I decided to see if I could find a more budget-friendly version – enter: L’Oreal Colour Riche Caresse Wet Shine Stain in #188 Coral Tattoo for only $9.99. They both have similar packaging, a practically identical applicator (even the brush angle is the same!) and they are both stain glosses. Once I had both it was time for a face-off. Here are my findings, all in the name of science people.
Lipstick Face-Off: The Best Lipstick Ever V.S. The Budget Friendly Version 1 of 7
I recently discovered the best lipstick ever - total perfection...aside from the price tag. I wondered if there might be a drugstore brand that might come close to meeting the amazingness of my luxury lipstick. Once I hunted down a potential candidate I conducted a little experiment - all in the name of beauty - to find out if the drugstore lipstick could really hold a candle to the luxury version.

This was the first lipstick I tried - the luxury brand that I was already in love with. YSL's glossy stain in coral.

This is the drugstore brand I tested out - L'Oreal's Caresse Wet Shine Stain in Coral. The packaging looks similar and it's also referred to as a glossy stain like YSL's version. Before trying these, the biggest difference between them is the $24.00 price difference.
Purchase from Drugstore.com for $9.99

I like it!

Now, here's the YSL version, which I obviously already love.
Side-by-side view and a verdict 7 of 7
Pretty similar, no? The YSL is a little more pink based, while the L'Oreal version is a little more orange based, but I like them both for different reasons. Obviously the color wasn't going to be exactly the same, so I'm not basing my decision on that factor. Overall, I have to say that the YSL is still my favorite. It feels like water going on and it soaks into your lips super nicely and lasts FOR-EH-VER...seriously. BUT...for the $24.00 price difference, I say go with the L'Oreal - it was surprisingly comparable and still felt nice going on though slightly more tacky, but not sticky after a bit. If I hadn't tried the YSL version first, I think I never would've questioned it. It's totally fantastic. So basically my answer is that both are great, so if you feel like treating yourself with a little splurge, rock that YSL (or ask for it for Mother's Day, or your birthday, or just a random "Treat Yo Self" day), but if you're looking for a budget-friendly alternative, the L'Oreal is an awesome option. Happy lipstick wearing!
